UK: PS3 Breaks 1 Mil Faster Than PS2 - Outsells 360

Less than a year after it' s March 23rd launch in the United Kingdom and the PlayStation 3 has hit the million units sold mark, according to UK market research company Chart-Track. Despite a somewhat rocky start, Sony' s initially luxury-priced console has managed to reach said milestone even faster than it' s predecessor, the PlayStation 2. Not only has it outperformed it' s older brother, but the PS3 has also been completely kicking the ass of Microsoft' s Xbox 360 as well.

" ChartTrack has also revealed that the Sony console has been outselling 360 for the last month. " It has been outselling 360 for the last four weeks, but they were neck and neck over the Christmas period, weeks 49-52," said ChartTrack director Dorian Bloch."

I can' t think of any I know, and yet every time I go into a game shop, one or two people walk out with PS3s.

As far as I can tell from the numbers, the 360 seems to only really be selling well in North America. Japan loves their Nintendo, and it seems as though Europe has adopted the PS3 as their console of choice. Pretty interesting if your think about it.

I know a lot of people who have PS3' s... none of them bought recently.

The fact that it is considered news when sony outsells the 360 itself shows how disappointing the ps3 has been .. Ofcourse sony is going to get increased sales , its getting decent games now . I am sure every forum will now have some retarted fanboy saying ' so it begins' or something along those lines .

I am eagerly waiting for GDC , i expect some awesome announcements ,especially from MS .

i know one person with a ps3 besides myself ofcourse. and i know 5 with xboxes.

All my friends have been hardcore PC gamers, so the 360 is what was most likely for us to get.

I know a few with ps3' s 4 of them since the 40gb was introduced, one of them exchanged his 360 for ps3.

That is interesting . Just shows that ps2 gained momentum later on . Glad to see the 360 and ps3 duking it out . This gen is going great except for the Wii selling so much . Yes , i know i have been bitching about the gimp a little too much but all i can say is DAMN !!!

Its amusing though, that a previous PS flagship sold more on the 360 than on the PS3

I disagree... I think the 360 controller is one of the best I' ve ever used. By far the most comfortable. I really hate Sony' s controllers. Playing games on my PS2 annoys the shit out of me just because of the controller. Feels like a cheap plastic toy made for people with awkward small hands.

What about the original Xbox ? Shouldnt that give us a good idea how how good the Xbox brand is doing ?

Dunno. I' d guess that it was longer than 60 weeks though. Gamecube raped Xbox here initially... then kinda died a slow death.

360 suffered stock shortages for about 3 months after launch.

PS2 suffered stock shortages for over 6 months after launch.

PS3 has never been out of stock.

Wii has only just become available again after being out of stock for the second time - the first for about 3 months and the second for about 5 months. It' s still not back in stock nationwide but it should be by mid-March.

360 is doing fine. Microsoft need to detail their 08/09 gameplan, announce some new games and keep selling at the rate they' re selling at. They won' t catch Nintendo unless Wii plateau' s this year (which is possible but less likely than ever) and PS3 still needs another price reduction.

The most worrying thing is the underwhelming PS3 software sales. Lifetime sales should be good in general, but when exclusive games on 360 are pre-selling 1M... and third party games are moving 3 - 4 x as many copies on 360 as the PS3 versions...

Well i am a midget so maybe that' s why

Sony' s controllers feel plasticky. They feel cheap. Especially the SixAxis because it' s so light. The Dual Shock 3 is much better, but it still doesn' t feel as solid as a 360 controller.

I prefer the 360 pad racing games... especially since most driving games now use the triggers for accelerate/reverse, and I prefer the 360 pad' s sticks for first and third person shooters because of the stick alignment and the triggers.

I don' t like the bumper buttons, the d-pad or the face buttons though, and when it comes to games like DMC or Tekken... i couldn' t stand playing with a 360 pad.

I prefer the PS3 pad for action games (like DMC), fighting games and platformers.

I dont know anyone who was in the market for a new console these last few months. Several of my friends already have 360s of course.

1 friend bought a PS3 a few months ago after his 360 died for the second time. Didn' t want another 360 due to the lack of good rpgs and the risk of another RROD.

Another friend got a 360 after his house was robbed and lost his PS3! Didn' t replace his PS3 because there weren' t many great games out at the time and he wanted Halo 3.

I' m personally going to reconsider getting a PS3 once MGS4 or FFXIII come out. Currently playing DMC4 on 360.

Once God of War 3, FFXIII, and MGS4 make their way onto the PS3 I' ll probably buy it. Until then the console bores me.

Once God of War 3, FFXIII, and MGS4 make their way onto the PS3 I' ll probably buy it. Until then the console bores me.

I guess you and I are the 2 people on earth who really liked the big duke Xbox controller. The black & white button alignment blew, but it was an extremely solid controller.

Can someone tell me if Dualshock PS3 has analog or digital face buttons?

I was a fan of the Duke. It took me over a year of the Controller S being out before I finally made the switch to it. the Duke was very solid and fit much better in my hands than the PS controller.

I hated that controller. My hands are so tiny I had troubles reaching all the buttons comfortably

The 360 pad fits my hands nicely, but DMC4 is making my thumb ache! The PS pad is better for button bashy games.

Sweet. So I' m not the only person who found the duke to be superior, and I don' t think my hands are particularly large (though I' ve never compared). Unlike the S, the Duke allowed me to control 6 possible buttons just with my thumb alone, giving me a definite edge when using it. It was also the most durable and comfortable controller ever.

Probably the worst controller I' ve ever used is the N64 controller. It was flawed in so many ways, the stick used to give my thumb tissue damage after playing extended PD sessions. It also had the durability of a dry stick.

I prefered the original Xbox controller for Halo, that' s about it. The S controller wasn' t that great though. The 360 controller is amazing, except for the D pad of course. I also like the Dual shock for different things.

It depends on if you like to plam the controller or grip it with your fingers.

I used to swear by the duke but once I got used to the s it was much better for me, and the 360 controller (official) is better still, although most third party ones for the 360 are rubbish ergnomically. I just don' t like the ps controller it has always felt a bit cheap, small and plasticky - and I just can' t get used to the analogue sticks being next to each other.

its impressive that the ps3 has reached that milestone so quickly but to be honest I only know of one person who has one, everyone else has 360s or wiis. I' ve always seen tons of ps3 on the shelves collecting dust and to be honest 360s are now doing the same. Its the wii (and to a slightly lesser extent the DS) that are flying off the shelves.

I have to absolutely agree that the N64 controller is the worst ever. What where they thinking when they decided to use that layout? It' s plain stupid that you can never have access to ALL the buttons without changing the way you hold the controller. And plus, that thumbstick was so low quality, I never had a single N64 controller lasting longer than a year before the stick started to wear out.

As for the big XBox controller I also found it to be quite confortable. Maybe it' s because I got so used to the DC controller but to me, the fat XBox joypad seemed like an evolution, simply the next step after the DC controller. I never used the S controller, ever!

Finally, in my opinion, the 360 and PS3 controller are on par. I prefer the 360 controller ergonomically and in my opinion the sticks and shoulder buttons are placed better, but the D-pad obviously sucks and, what I hate the most, is that the face buttons on the 360 controller are a bit too high. They are standing out a bit from the controller, so you have to push them down a longer way and that can become quite tiring.

Meh, I got used to it. Apart from the admittedly near useless D-pad handle, it had enough buttons to more than make up for the failed 3 prong design.

I never had one wear out either, and my friends and I played regularly.

Now, the original Playstation controller... that was a piece of crap.
