Well c' mon, they are obviously afraid of Infium monopolizing the entire market, they gotta compete somehow On a serious note...I think it sounds interesting at least to be able to play a pc game right on the xbox. But some games I really don' t like playing with a controller, so maybe if they just made an xbox keyboard and mouse peripheral...oh wait that' s a pc (ok so i lied )

Sounds good. Does anyone else remember how well the DC keyboard and mouse worked? This could be great, console and PC games out of the box. What I would really like to see is playing PC games with the XBOX controller. Imagine playing PC halo with the XBOX controller!

I think I would like this idea better if all of this stuff came as a reasonably cheap add-on. But it' s MS so we all know " cheap" isn' t going to happen.

Its not gonna happen. The market is not ready for that. The game console will either become a PC or it will cease to exist. Same with the television set. There will be nothing else someday I believe. The PC will do everything, it will be everything. The screen in your living room will be the PC screen, set up to mostly for vieweing programs or movies. Look in all the futuristic movies, do you see tv sets? No! They are always moving the boxes and files with their hands on the nice glass screen. I mean thats what people will demand based on what they see today!:)

The only problem is the huge leaps PC games make graphically. At least that would seem like a problem to me. I' m sure at launch the Xbox 2 would rival a PC, maybe. After a year or two though...then it would get interesting.

If doable pehaps it could extend the life of the console...but how much would the upgrades cost? There have been little upgrades...like the N64 av pack.

If they start making consoles upgradable then I don' t want to game on a " console" anymore. You buy a console because you want to escape the PC' s constant upgrading, or at least I did. I like being guranteed to play all games that come out for something without having to worry about buying a new graphics card, etc.

So MS makes a console which essentially is a computer with a joystick rather than keyboard and mouse and now in order to compete they have to make their console more like a computer? I never really liked the idea of the xbox since it is essentially just a computer MS should just focus and stick to the PC stuff

There' s not a huge distinction between PCs and consoles other than what you' re playing with.

You can' t knock MS for doing what every other company has been doing since the creation of videogames. Also, the X-Box is a great consoles and has provided countless hours of gaming bliss to many a gamer out there. There' s no need to say MS should stick to PC gaming.

Yes, plus its a whole different(bigger) game market than pc gaming and Microsoft wants a peice of the pie. I laughed at the xbox at first also, but really its great that it has a harddrive, no memory cards. It' s also an outstanding value for its price...they have strong third party support and have their own awesome exclusives. I don' t think there' s any reason Microsoft should only stick to pc gaming with the momentum they are showing in the console race.

An upgradable console could be somewhat good if the price is right. Instead of buying a whole new system, all you do is send in yer console and have it upgraded or somin. Old games would still be with it. But then again itd probably be pricy and the amount of time for each console to be upgraded blahg.

Yes, it would be pricy, as new graphics cards usually run from $150-$400. If consoles become upgradeable, I' ll go completely PC. I didn' t think about this in my earlier post, but you are correct about (High Profile, high-end requiring) PC games would become unplayable after 2 to 4 years. But on another note, running a game on a console requires slightly lower specs than running on a PC. (consoles don' t need to run an OS and other services such as anti-virus or if your playing online something such as GameSpy)

You' re probably right mx, for the prices we buy consoles at today it doesn' t seem like they could offer a cheap effective upgrade.
