Covering the basics...
-
May 31, 2006 14:01
So I have been an onlooker for sometime, I like the fact that it seems a majority of the community spawned from Sega Fanboys (which means there is no real strong allegiance to any of the three major industry leaders today). I made this post to really bring about discussion on the industry. Do you think that as an industry gaming has evolved to the point to be more powerful then the Movie industry? I think that the ESRB and the ESA have done so much to push the industry in a direction that is so clear, concise, and organized compared to the movie industry. As well, what one thing would you wish to carry into the next gen? Side-Scrollers, Old controller design? Alot of these are merely discussion questions, I' ll be around :)

Welcome or something like that. I don' t know what you mean with powerful but every industry wants to grow so this naturally goes for the videogame industry as well. I hope that 2D games will still have a place in the next-gen. I hope the d-pad doesn' t get forgotten.

Personally i' m much more interested in the gaming industry and have been for a while. As for the comparison I don' t think the gaming industry gets enough press to tell you the truth and it has evolved a lot the last couple of years, but i' m not sure about the taking over the movie industry. About things to take over to next gen.....I use to like the memory card that slipped into the dc and you could play mini games on and yeah the d-pad.

I' m not sure actually. Though I don' t think more people play games than there are people who watch movies, I had heard somewhere (on Radio I think) that the gaming industry had surpassed both the Movie and Music industry together, in terms of money making.

Bishonen: Heh, I think I get what you are trying to say. It was because of Cetra' s " Sony is better than nintendo at innovation" thread that I joined the forum, I think that thread showed more or less the community' s attitude towards fanboys, ignorant ones at least. Trust me, I' m no Cetra :)

Bias' ed not Ignorant, but as such I am also a Hypocrite seeing as I own a PS2 and a PSP. As I have said I think I am a reluctant Old school gamer, Sony is the representation of " New School" and as such (yeah I used it again) I don' t like them (hate was probably too strong a word).

Let me Put it simple.. Back in thwe 80/90s Their was two companies SEGA and Nintendo, Both fought each other by outdoing one another with AAA titles which all four consoles (MS, Nes, MD, Snes) was plastered with (especially the 16-bit ones).. In the fight you had Classics upon classics, F-Zeros, Sonics, Marios, Shinobis, SOR' s, Thunderforce' s, Axley, Starfox, SMK, EA sports (when EA was actually good), Phanstasy Stars, Zeldas, Bombermans, Gunstars, Steel empire, Mickey Mouse (Disney games) (when they was actually brilliant), SFII' s, Rollig thunders, Sim city' s, Wonderboys, Tetris' s, Super Tennis, Andrea Aggasy Tennis, And Altred Beats (actually forget the last one) Then Came Sony who gained Info and ideas from when they worked on Nintendo' s (never released) CD-rom project and Came Out with ' Playstation' With Playstation Sony Made the ' Image' and ' Trend' more important than the actual Games and this is where the industry started to completely F%^k-up that even creative and talented Game=masters ' SEGA' was ignored over the Hype of ' Wipeout' and co.. Not long after M$ wth its unlimited Financial-backing entered the arena and Carried on with SEGAs/Dreamcasts Ideas and built a Successful Online community Via Live and steadily Rose against Sony. Then Nintendo was starting to become Threaten under the hype and had to start a new Direction.. With the DS ad now Wii.. Now: It Seems some people have come to their senses and Going for Great games and Gameplay first.. Sony don’t Seem so Strong Anymore.. The Saga continues..

I NEVER want to see the D-pad or side-scrollers dissapear. I also wish they made more games with either 2-D graphics or stylized cel-shading, like Killer7. The realistic 3-D graphics are getting kinda repetitive.

EA sports (when EA was actually good) excuse me mister but EA was bad in the 16bit era and terrible in the 32bit era, i never had a good image of EA until like 4 years ago, when hey started to put the quality up, sure there are no AAA titles, but all there games are decent, and it is much better than a lot of developers out there ... With Playstation Sony Made the ' Image' and ' Trend' more important than the actual Games and this is where the industry started to completely F%^k-up that even creative and talented Game=masters ' SEGA' was ignored over the Hype of ' Wipeout' and co.. this is the typical stereotype you hear pretty much from people in forums, i don' t know what you are talking about, PSone when it came had a lot and lot of AAA titles , and that' s why it became popular, because developers were all onboard, and thus psone had one of the greatest libraries ever... sega sucks today that' s why, look at their games , some of them are a F****g joke, it is no master anymore, gone are the days where sega was what was, today it' s a crap company, look at their latest Sega rally, would you imagine a respected developers just F**k up one of their most prestigious franchises, altered beast , shinobi, crazy taxi 3, hell even Sonic!! they all suck... sony today as a developer ? ico developers, god of war , gran turismo and genji very short but a good game it was... ' SEGA' was ignored over the Hype of ' Wipeout' and co.. because wipeout' s (most of them) are great racing games... grow up people and stop trashtalking sony, why whenever a company got to the top and settle for a while you styart bitching, why poeple hate success, some nintendo and sony fanboys trash microsoft and say it doesn' t deserve to be on top because it' s field is not a video game, because all they are after is money and if microsoft has not it' s unlimited supply of money, they wouldn' t be the second , SO ????

I actually agree with Abasoufiane about some things this time. But I wouldn' t say Sega suck today. Not with some amazing games like Virtua Fighter, Monkey Ball, Yakuza, Otogi and more. But they have nearly killed some of their great franchises like Sonic. But it looks like they are getting back on track in the next-gen. Sony makes some really cool games (loved Ape Escape for the PS1) and the recent PS2 titles are just amazing. Their PSP titles are good too. Sony made the trend and image very important but that gave 3rd party companies a bigger role. Not like with Nintendo and Sega who always put their own games in focus in order to get most sales. On the Sony consoles 3rd party developers doesn' t have to compete with Segas or Nintendo' s games. Take Sega and EA during the Dreamcast era for example where EA' s sports titles would sell bad because of the Sega sports titles. EA simply didn' t want to support Dreamcast. Sony gave the 3rd party developers a chance they deserved. I still dislike Sony for lots of reasons of course and I still prefer other companies but Sony does makes some good stuff now and then.

LOL.. I find this funny, really funny.. EA Bad in the 16bit days?? WTF??.. They produced totally new IP' s such as Madden, EA Hockey and PGA tour golf, Road Rash to name a few.. ALL in the 16bit Era!! And all unique and solid games.. Tell me an example where EA have bettered that record recently? Come on!!! name 5 totally brand new IPs and good ones at that, that EA hve produced recently???? sega sucks today that' s why, look at their games , some of them are a F****g joke, it is no master anymore, gone are the days where sega was what was, today it' s a crap company, look at their latest Sega rally, would you imagine a respected developers just F**k up one of their most prestigious franchises, altered beast , shinobi, crazy taxi 3, hell even Sonic!! they all suck... Oh dear :( Uve just proved my point about Sony F$£king up the Industry and turning it from Creative to a more harsh and non-creative Business.. Sega are now Forced to go into ' Business' Mode.. They simply cant risk to go into ' Creative mode as much.. this is why your not seeing such good titles.. And its funny because one of the teams at Sega that can have alittle more Freedom ' AM2' have produced Probably one of the Finest and Deepest games ever made.. :VF5. I’ve played the Test version and its simply ' Stunning' .. Enuff from me. out...

I think of Capcom as the " new" Sega. I think Sega should let Capcom have a crack at a Sonic game!
