YouTube purchased by Google

http://www.cinematical.com/2006/10/09/google-buys-youtube-for-1-65-billion/ Good or bad, your thoughts? IMO it depends on what (if any) content restrictions Google places on Youtube. One of the reason people love Youtube so much is because you can watch clips from copyrighted movies/television shows, so if you take that away then there' s a chance users will just go somewhere else, maybe not. Personally I don' t think Youtube will change that much besides more ads. As long as it doesn' t get as bad as myspace. I don' t want to be in the middle of a clip and get a pop up asking me to join their PornTube! =D

Isn' t Google one of the services that gave the government people' s personal data? This could be a whole lot worse than initially imagined...(or not). Let' s hope for the best... Oh, and by the way, nice to see you again lotusson. My return to Kikizo has shown me that a few long time members still exist.

Right now a lot of people like google or liked google but as it becomes bigger and does stuff like this more and more people will hate them. I guess I' d rather have google own youtube than time warner or some other company like that.

Good, Youtube as it stands has a really putrude ranking system. Google Video actually has a viable Top 100. I hope Google turns the site around.

I was actually not expecting Google to go ahead with a puchase of YouTube. This means that Google now has to take care of a bundle of massive lawsuits put up against YouTube as a result of copyright infringement. I wonder how they' ll settle it?

I' ve mixed feelings. Good stuff like GG Allin live & on Geraldo & KKK on Jerry Springer will all have to be cut and that' s bad. On the other hand Youtube is now so popular that all this stuff would be cut out sometime soon anyway because of copyright infringements. It' s fun and games as a sharing site, but the lawyers would hold Youtube themselves responsible. The internet is not free anymore. Hopeully they' ll keep GG alive on it though

I think they will find a way for youtube to coexcist with google videos... Maybe google-video will start to get more comercialized, while youtube will be the place where regular people uploads most of their videos, and similar. Google videos will be the place where there are higher quality and more comercial stuff, I read somewhere that both Warner and Sony would start publishing free music videos on google videos, wich is good advertising of their bands. :) I do think that youtube will concentrate more on protecting against copyright-infringement, in the future. I just hope they dosn' t go overboard. Isn' t Google one of the services that gave the government people' s personal data? I think it were a court ruling that said that google had to reveal that data to the US goverment, however I were under the impression that google did bring it furter into the court-system, so I' m not sure it' s happened yet. I don' t have any interests in how that is going anyway. :-/

As the self proclaimed largest advocate against censorship, even I would give in to China, they' re the scariest people on the planet. It won' t be long before they become powerful enough to have anything they want. Pretty soon they' ll be teaching Cantonese and Mandarin in our schools as a mandatory language.

People act as though the whole " chinese censorship" thing and the federal government ordering you to give up information are little things to deal with! " Oh, I' d just tell them to kiss my ass!" is the typical response. You guys have to keep in mind that there are much larger business and moral issues at hand when it comes to these events, and I don' t think we have all the information necessary to say whether Google did all they could to prevent these oppressive regimes from trampling on our liberties. I personally do not feel like the government should be allowed access to their records, but what can we do?! VIVA LA REVOLUCION! (or something like that).

*cough* it' s spelled " révolution" And yeah I agree, the less control the government has on our freedoms the better our lives would be.

IMO it was a smart move for google to agree with the chinese government censorship version. They' ll make loads of money from it. They were just going to block them if they didn' t.

Oh, and by the way, nice to see you again lotusson. My return to Kikizo has shown me that a few long time members still exist. And a happy hello to you too. I am always lurking around here in one form or another, although I often find myself drowning in school work.
