big storm advice?
-
Apr 02, 2008 15:52
Okay, there is a huge storm kinda coming/here/soon-to-be here and its really ***ing windy and raining and such. Its already caused the power to go out twice for a few hours each time. Huge trees are falling everywhere, and it doesn' t help i live right on the edge of a ***ing forest. [:' (] ..Anyway. Whats the likelyhood of doing damage to my computer if i keep it on and use it if the power keeps cutting out. I don' t want to risk my baby. *clings to her compy* Advice plz?

Ideally you would have hooked up to a surge protector. Otherwise, if the storm is serious you might be best to shut down and unplug.

You should really think about purchasing a battery back-up of some sort. You could get one for like $40 and it' ll save you hundreds of dollars and possibly hours of work (hard drives don' t like it when you suddenly cut power.) Of course that probably won' t help you for the coming storm...best bet, shutdown and wait it out. Or use someone else' s computer

Or use someone else' s computer only other computer i' d use is my sisters/step sisters which my younger sister fucks to all hell anyway. Seriously, in a year or so, shes fried three fucking computers. THREE. Had to buy new powerboard thingies or whatever for them, or just corrupted them to hell, getting viruses and trying to cover them up by looking for them to delete them and deleting system files. : / But hey, i' ll probably somehow manage to infect and kill the whole internet with it. And no, i don' t wants to kill the internets for the whole world The storm seems to have settled a bit anyway. If it starts getting bad again i' ll shut down and wait it out. Hahaha i looked out the window and a tree fell on my clothesline and broke it. Can' t hang out the washing now! Sucker!

Wait, so how many Aussies are there on Kikizo now? I' m one, I know Terrak is another (though he seems to have disappeared). Oh and definitely get some sort of surge protector or UPS. We had a tree come down in our street and it caused a lengthy brown-out in our home. I' m not sure how or why, but it completely fried my router. Fortunately my new PC was fine.

ORIGINAL: kitten hahaha yeah well.. its not the best tv series of ours. I have friends that have been hooked for years. I just don' t get it. It' s... boring. Same thing with Home and Away. Ada Nicodemou was hot though so i can' t say i haven' t watched it...

I wouldn' t chance it. Better to be without a PC for a couple days, and then have it back than take a chance at frying your box.

When big storms come through I tend to unplug all my stuff (regardless of having a surge protector), then I go outside. I like taking on the elements first hand. I' ve sat outside with tornadoes less than a mile away just to watch when I lived in Minnesota (had trees and sh*t go through my house when I lived there). Here in Florida if there' s a hurricane you can find me at the beach fighting the waves. No surf board or anything, man vs. nature is the only way to go. There hasn' t been a hurricane in forever though. So much for Al Gore' s worst hurricane seasons ever because of global warming theory. F*ckin' tool.
