First of all, Namco actually released it as Puck-Man in Japan. When Bally-Midway (Yes, THAT Midway) Licensed it, Namco specifically asked them to change the name cause they knew how miscievious American players would be. So Midway changed it into Pac-Man. Namco liked the name so much, that future games were called Pac-Man.

Sony was pretty smart to get buzz for the PS2 though
