EA to actually innovate
-
Jan 04, 2007 18:38
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=71427 I think EA get a lot of unfair flak (I get the impression that knocking EA is regarded as cool) but it can' t be argued that a company with their financial resources should take a lot more risks then they have been doing. Hopefully, things are going to improve in the future. Things do sound promising going by that article.

they get flack because they spend more time pushing games out the door than they do fixing them and adding content! mediocre game after mediocre game is released!

Promising? That article was all talk and no substance. Most of the flak EA gets is justified. They' ve done a lot of stupid and dubious moves, and the majority of games they publish are shameless grabs for cash.

mediocre game after mediocre game is released! I disagree, whilst they' re far from the greatest developer/publisher, I have enjoyed a lot of EA' s more recent offerings such as Black, Burnout, Fifa 07, Battle for Middle Earth II and SSX. Promising? That article was all talk and no substance. From article: " EA has realised that what we need now to stay number one and keep that edge is really to focus on creating new IP," Sounds pretty promising. Guess we' ll just have to wait and see. Most of the flak EA gets is justified. They' ve done a lot of stupid and dubious moves, and the majority of games they publish are shameless grabs for cash. Yeah, but they' ve also done a lot of good for the industry that people fail to acknowledge.

EA have eaten and digested a lot of great companies in the past - Origin, Maxis, Westwood Studios, Bullfrog... To begin with they were a focused publisher with developers interests in mind, and were one of the first to actually put developer credits into their games. They became popular, but slowly they realised that they could actually screw the devs by buying them, dictate over them until they left and then make the games cheaper themselves. They' d destroy the company and the franchise, but through marketing they' d make money doing it! Criterion and Crytek will be eaten next rest assured! [:' (] Then theres all these decisions lately to allow spyware for advertising revenue ala BF2142, and getting you to pay for game content you already own ala NFS:Carbon. As a general rule EA does indeed suck balls.

EA is the devil...haha, no seriously they do put out sit about 9/10' s of the time. That 1/10 is nice...but considering their size isn' t really much.

A lot of the good titles EA puts out they don' t even develop they just publish. Stranger' s Wrath is a perfect example. EA blows.

of course they are gonna get flak...they released 3 YES 3!! football games for the xbox 360 in less than a year. They always seem to make a game, it sells well so they make another...take a few features from the last game out, then make a 3rd and put the features back in and have the nerve to call them brand new. Nothing new has come from their sports titles inabout 8 years. They have released more shit than good.

of course they are gonna get flak...they released 3 YES 3!! football games for the xbox 360 in less than a year. And they were all still unenjoyable compared to Blitz (My opinion of course) :)

ORIGINAL: Papado I completely agree, although I am quite enjoying Fight Night Round 3 at the moment. One of the very very few EA games I can appreciate.

One thing that I' ve always found odd is that there' s big film companies and the like that function in much the same way as EA, and yet they don' t receive any flak from film buffs. Just thought I' d get that off my chest...

Nothing new has come from their sports titles inabout 8 years. I disagree. In recent years, Fifa has seen some drastic changes, albeit not always successful ones. Fifa 07 is fantastic though and in my view, way more fun than Pro Evolution Soccer!

I' m still trying to adjust to PES6 currently. Maybe its the 360 analog sticks and triggers, but I find it feels different somehow to 4 and 5 on the PS2. Certainly compared to older Pro Evos, the older FIFAs have sucked. FIFA 07, well sure it looks real and the names are all spelt right, but it' s always lacked that certain something... (Yay, vaguest post of the year!) 4 v 4 tourneys on Pro Evo with a bunch of friends is awesome though. (Course that' s limited to 2 v 2 now on 360, unless they bring out a wireless multitap! Now theres an idea!)
