The guy who sold me this Dreamcast was a masochist. I got it via Ebay, plugged it it, turned it on, and nothing.

Turns out the console had a couple bugs.


Little roachy thingies on the bottom case.


All those brown flecks on the CD drive metal? Larvae stains.


Found these puppies on the power source' s heat shield. That' s just the big stuff, all those specks on the napkin beneath it are bug bits too.

And this is after I' d scrubbed the majority of the whole bugs, larvae, legs, shed bug skin and dry blood off of the damn thing, and tried to scratch the corrosion off of the A/V pins.

Oh, and did I mention, the guy smoked?[:' (]

Sort of. First I got it to power up, that was a small achievement. After a smidgen of tweaking I got response from the laser, so now it' s all down to the A/V port. I' m getting laser movement, the drive servo that spins the disk is functioning now, and If I can get that port scraped down, or replaced, then I should get a signal to the TV.

I' m honestly just considering picking up another one though, those seriously were the best pictures I had to offer of that entire box. It' s pretty skanky.

Aw man that sucks! I am not surprised that the guy smokes, as slobs (which this guy obviously was) usually do smoke. So you get the privilege of smelling his lovely environment via your new Dreamcast as well.

If you think it might be the connectors on the AV port, you can try taking some very fine sandpaper and rubbing it over the pins. Then clean them with alcohol.
