Eidos has confirmed that it won' t be releasing most of its major PS3 titles until next year, stating that the console' s installed base will not be high enough before then.

As part of a statement released alongside the company' s interim results for the six months ended December 31 2006, CEO Jane Cavanagh said, " We believe that PlayStation 3 will be a successful platform, and are developing technology and products for this console.

" However, as we do not believe that the installed base will be high enough until the second half of our 2008 financial year, most of our major product releases on the PlayStation 3 platform are not scheduled before that date."

What they fail to realise is that the install base isn' t going to grow without good games.

Wow. The second half of the " financial year" 2008 would begin in October 2008.

Can' t say I' ve ever been interested in any of the drek that Eidos dribbles out, though.

Actually Sony had sold about 2.2 million by February, and actually surpassed the 360' s sales numbers from the previous year(comparing each consoles launch period). Plus they just sold 600,000 on launch in the EU, not including what they have sold following the first day/pre-orders.

So I would imagine that they have sold at least 3 million worldwide by now.

The only thing that sucks about this is PS3 now having any IO interactive games in the next 18 months.

This probably means Kane & Lynch won' t be released on PS3 at all, ...which is a shame.

I don' t know what else they have lined up. Is there another Hitman game in development?

But still, my point is they could make more money by putting it on the 360... or hell even the wii because of the more consoles they have sold.

That might be the figure of PS3' s sold excluding the EU, but not including. Like I said, VG charts had em at 2.08 million a couple months ago.

From what I' ve seen. The PS3 has been ridiculously well accepted in Europe. I can' t see a huge difference between the US & EU markets, at least not one that' d favor Europe.

On the flipside, Eidos could evaluate that the early adopter is typically the most prone to buy software and that the game list on the PS3 is thin, meaning less competition for Eidos games. Eidos could also look at the potential for a release of greatest hits titles. If they were to release now, they could also be one of the first to release greatest hits and make more money by having the first bulk amounts of cheap software available for the system, potentially during that identified fiscal period.

Dunno about not having any decent titles. Am I smoking reefer or did they have a hand in Hitman?

They may not be of the highest selling Publisher, but they certainly have a more unique catalog, ranging form the origional LEGO Star Wars to the Hitman series. Theif and Deus Ex certainly were decent games. Battlestation Midway altho challenging certainly was recieved well. Tho they dont seem to have much coming out within the said time period so PS3 may not be missing much more then Kane and Lynch.
