Why console codenames are ALWAYS cooler - Apr 28, 2006 05:02
It' s true, ...it has been for more than a decade now. The console codename is ALWAYS better than the final chosen handle.

I don' t like Gamecube, Xbox OR Playstation. I don' t like Xbox 360, Playstation 3 OR Nintendo Wii.

Look at the names we could have had for our systems in the past...

PSX (Playstation)

Ultra 64 (Nintendo 64)

Blackbelt, Dural and Katana (Dreamcast)

Nitro (Nintendo DS)

Dolphin, GCN (Gamecube)

Xenon (Xbox 360)

N5, Revolution (Wii)

You know I completely forgot about xenon but I completely loved it that said I didn' t mind x360 because I could see the reasoning and made sense as did ps3 nintendo should have either stuck with rev or added a number or a series of because it sounds cooler that way.

I thought 360 was a very stupid idea and now I got used to it somehow , however - Wii is way beyond " very stupid idea" .

N5 wasn' t a codename, nitro is worse than Nintendo DS and same goes for :

BlackBelt, katana (DC was the best console name ever and it told the truth about that system - well maybe not for Sega) , Playstation

Those codenames are cool but not for a gaming system. Most of them are too agressive - like Nitro , but Wii is just (and I don' t mean it in a way some stupid kids keep saying how this and that is) gay.

While I have nothing against the gay comunity , I have a lot against Wii

Dolphin, Xenon and Revolution are the only mentioned codenames that I found better than the final names.
PSX sounds very geeky, Ultra 64 sounds desperate, the DC codenames sounds violent and can only be associated with fighting games, Nitro... sounds as good as Dynamite...

Nah although xenon sounded nice I dont think it was quite practical and said anything about the console and for some reason it reminds me of plutonium....are there any xenon' s in stock vs any 360' s in stock sort of worked out great. And psx I always hated that name.

I thought calling it the Xbox 360 was a bit strange, and I listened to their
" organic breath of fresh air inhaling" reasoning behind it, and still not bought.
I did get used to calling it a 360 and that rolls of the tongue nicer than Xenon,
and plus Xenon has gotta be someone with lisps worst nightmare.lol.
Now I just call it a 360, and Wii did Nintendo have to think up Wii???
Wii? Wii? Wii?
Was it to appeal to the young immature gamers and make it accessible to
everyone?

" Mummy what' s a Wii?"

" Can' t it wait until we get home?"

" But I want a Wii!"

" Listen you little runt... Oh, that' s what you meant, sorry son."

What stupidity are Nintendo trying to pull, maybe the felt anyone under 6 couldnt
pronounce revolution. Oh, that name sounds hard:

" Hey, er you guys wanna come around and have a spin on my Wii for a bit?"

" Dude... Cut the crap..."

" Well, it used to be called revolution..."

Revolution sounds much better than Wii. [:' (]

The DS was considered a temporary name at the time it was created. The fans liked it so Nintendo kept it. I always though PlayStation was just a bit childish. I thought Dreamcast was both childish AND effeminate. Both Genesis and Mega Drive were cool, as were Master System and Saturn. Gamecube is FAR better than Dolphin or GCN (GCN is super retarded). I much MUCH MUCH prefer Nintendo 64 to the extremely lame-sounding Ultra 64.

And i still preferred Nitro.

Saturn was a good name but it didn' t have a codename, just a stupid logo.

I think that Joe is right in saying that PlayStaion is childish, but i think the same stands for Gamecube. While i wouldn' t want to have had to calll it Dolphin i think they could have done better.

N5 wasn' t a codename

It was. Right at the beginning Nintendo were referring to the unit as N5, before they changed it to Revolution.

1)Because sony taught the world that stupid sounding systems sell really well.

2)Because you spend so much time thinking about how stupid the name is, you don' t forget about it.

3)Because the japanese have no idea what a cool english name is.

1.I don' t think Playstati...no forget it it does sound stupid

3.The name was a global effort of NoE,NoA and NoJ - that makes them even more insane.

MAjik N5 was there indeed :)

I really loved th DreamCast name I don' t know why people don' t like it.
