Game Tap releases Editorial Staff
-
May 29, 2008 21:35
GameTap today announced that they' ll be letting go of their entire editorial staff, including both the written and video branches of their website. Rick Sanchez, vice president of content for GameTap, explained the decision in a post on their official forum. " While we have been very happy with the work done by our editorial and video teams, we' ve made a decision to focus the business on our biggest strength, which is our game catalog," he wrote. " As a result, we will be restructuring the site to focus exclusively on gameplay." The news was further confirmed through unnamed sources by Wired' s Game|Life, who report the editorial staff will be let go by mid-June. In an interview with Wired, Sanchez elaborated on the decision, saying " This change will allow us to focus our energies and resources on our game offering and expanding our library." Sanchez also noted that GameTap will " continue to operate all of our digital distribution models, including download to own, subscription, and ad supported gameplay." In essence, only the editorial portion of GameTap will be affected, while the service itself will continue as usual. Sadly, GameTap' s editorial staff was home to a few former Ziff Davis staff members from the now-defunct Official PlayStation Magazine, including Dana Jongewaard, Thierry " Scooter" Nguyen, and Giancarlo Varanini. The rest of GameTap' s editorial staff was comprised of similarly veteran writers from other outlets, including former IGN editor Doug Perry, former GamePro editor Wes Nihei, and former GameSpot editor Curt Feldman.
