What about Ubuntu?

Can you use it? I'm interested in Gimp. Is there any software like Irfanview?

I can, but you can't. I'm allowed, because I'm badass. Why would you be interested in GIMP anyhow? It pales in comparison to Photoshop in every aspect, and while IrFanView is my image-viewer of choice, there are hundreds and hundreds of mac-specific applications to look at pitchas' with. GraphicConverter, iPhoto, shoot, I suppose if you really wanted you could run IrFan on top of WINE, and call it a day. Why do you ask?

I use gimp like I do paint in windows, mostly just to fuck around, and it's free. Comparing to photoshop is stupid. Ubuntu/xubuntu is awesome, imagine the possibilities it could have in poor countries, it also makes people more intelligent then your average dumbass windows users who shits their pants at the thought of having to run a command.

I agree . I like the Ubuntu distro better than any of the others . Especially Xubuntu . Its a no nonsense distro and the requirements are very low . If you want a really fast and efficient OS go for xubuntu .

Ubunto is a good distro if you want something easy. When you buy computers from Dell and places they actually cost less with Windows on them because companies pay them to put their junkware on it. If you try to buy the same computer from them with linux it costs more.

All non-server versions of unix/linux distros are easy, stfu, don't try to act smart.

Easy if you're familiar. It's weird as fuck making it work the first few times if all you've ever operated is a PC though. As eddie said if its only for gimp then stick to photoshop ... I am running Xubuntu btw .. Primary OS?

Gimp ain't bad. It's been a few years since I used it, but at the time I found it to have pretty much every feature that Photoshop has... it just took a while to find my way around its different menu systems.

If you try to buy the same computer from them with linux it costs more. Or you could build your own rig and install Linux.
