Games you Hate that everyone else Loves

Do you have any games that you just can' t stand, but everyone else on the planet can' t seem to get enough of? I sure do. Here are mine: Final Fantasy (series) I' ve played the 2 SNES versions and the PS FF7. I was left unimpressed. At which point was I supposed to enjoy this game? As I was playing FF7, I began to hate all other RPGs. I have not enjoyed an RPG since unless you can consider Shenmue an RPG. I loved RPGs up to FF7, which ruined my life with it' s suckiness. Gradius (series) Many proclaim this as the King of Shooters. Why? The weapons are pathetic. I can literally piss harder than any of the Gradius weapons can fire. Nothing like getting up to a giant boss and firing a weapon that amounts to nothing more than shooting soft peas from a plastic spoon. Oh yeah, and the game moves horribly slow. The default speed before power ups makes you wonder if your control pad is plugged in. It is way too slow. R-Type did the same thing, but R-Type wasn' t that slow. And what is with the strange fascination of the Easter Island heads that are in EVERY GAME? The music to these games is awesome. That' s about it, though Gradius Gaiden was somewhat enjoyable. Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) Everyone says this game is better than sex and is more important than whatever God you believe in. Hell, it' s supposedly better than life itself. Then why is the game so damn boring? Yes, it' s tough, but tough does not mean it is fun. Graphics are pretty good, but not end-all-be-all amazing. I find it humorous that reflections in the ground will reflect the room surroundings, but not Ryo or his enemies. It' s kind of like having a mirror that reflects the room, but not anything that actually moves. Maybe Ryo and all of his enemies are vampires? Well, Ryo was brought back from the dead by an owl or something. But naw, the graphic design just wasn' t thorough. The music is forgettable for the most part. Personally I' d rather have challenging than downright difficult. There is a difference. Also, Itagaki is an assclown. Current Sports Games (any current system) I hate almost all sports games! They REALLY SUCK ASS this generation, as well as the previous generation. I have no clue why people like them. The one exception is golf games. I like the Tiger Woods games and the Hot Shots Golf games. Don' t like Mario Golf. I also liked John Madden on the Genesis and Tommy Lasorda Baseball, etc etc etc. Sportstalk was also pretty cool back in the day. Baseball Stars Professional ROCKED on the Neo Geo. But now sports games look AWFUL with the attempt at realism. Oh well. Gran Turismo (series) I' ve never before played a racing game in which the actual racing takes a backseat to tuning and tinkering like it does in Gran Turismo. Like Ninja Gaiden, people claim this is an essential game and that you will live a lonely, boring, uneventful life if you do not buy it. I play racing games to race, not screw with my car. Lose the tuning crap and you might have a fun game! Gran Turismo is incredibly unrealistic since it doesn' t even allow cars to be damaged! Vectorman 1 and 2 People say these games have awesome graphics that are super über great. WRONG! The gamelay sucks and so do the graphics! The colors are among the worst I have seen on the Genesis. They look like they are using 16 colors out of a pallette of 64 (Genesis normally uses 64 out of 512). When I first played Vectorman, I got seriously ill as a result since it looked so bad. And the sound and music made me have explosive diarrhea! Eternal Champions Yes, tons of people actually like this game! I can' t figure out why. They say the Sega CD version puts 256 colors onscreen simultaneously. Where? Tell me and I will do a frame grab and count the colors myself. All the graphics look worse, far more grainly and less colorful than Altered Beast. The Sega CD version looks identical to the cartridge version from what I can tell as well. The characters ALL have super stiff animation and crap controls. Some almost decent-music in the CD version, though. Tom Clancy Inspired Games (any system) Tom Clancy sucks. Michael Crichton could kick his ass. So could Steven King and Agatha Christie! The last thing I want to do is play Syphon Clancy Six 3. All those games seem the same to me. Pretending you are special ops or in the military, sneaking around and killing people. Yee haaa! At least all fighting games are different and unique. (yes I am being a smart ass). I just don' t like those types of games. They seem to lack color as well, unless you consider grey a vibrant color. Dance Dance Revolution (or any similar games) Sure, these games increase the heart rate of the players. They also increase MY heart rate because I am busy beating up the people who play it! :) Metal Gear Solid 2 I loved the first Metal Gear Solid. Hey any game where a dog falls in love with you kicks ass. But the second game sucked ass. Period. And from what I' ve seen of part 3, it doesn' t look all that interesting either. And the PSP version is turn-based. Oooo count me in! Well I think that' s it for now. Soon I will start a thread based on the opposite premise, but I didn' t want to have two similarly titled threads up at once.

I Agree about ETERNAL CHAMPIONS... I still scratch my head over how great people think the game is. When I played it I found it to be a very boring and frustrating fighting game that was further hampered by the technical inability of the console.. Everyone knows I agree about the Gran Turismo series, lol, and I also feel the same exact way about the Sega GT series.. While Ninja Gaiden is a great game, I agree that it' s not very proficient in the graphics department. The water physics, the reflections as well as some of the textures needed more work. As far as Sports games go this generation, I like stuff like Beach Spikers and Virtua Tennis, as well as ' some' boxing games. All the other stuff I can live without.

I' ve always hated the Final Fantasy series to, but I *think* I probably could have gotten into Final Fantasy X a bit more if it had real-time battles. But it didn' t and I loathe turn-based battles so that was the end of that... I can' t wait till Ys 6 comes out though. From what I played of it, it' s going to ROCK!! The real-time battles and overall gameplay was as great as some of the previous versions.

Joe: I was going to read all that until I realized that it' s just an annoying post to read. See, saying something " sucks" isn' t really enough, especially when you' re bashing some of the best games and series in video game history. Unless you can provide more than the words " suckiness" and " crap," I' d find it very difficult to respect your opinion...on anything.

I agree. You need to pick your words better. I find the FF series OK, but I prefer a combination of turn-based and real-time (KOTOR comes to mind) Clancy games aren' t suposed to be " colourfull" , sorry but this isn' t Mario or Superman, you dont blend into the dark wearing yellow spandex. And as for Gran Turismo, if you don' t like it just shut the hell up, as for every other thing else you listed. Gran Turismo is for people who want to modify their cars for that extra 5hp (apparently there are a lot of them). These are not " crap" just because you think so. These are all successful because they are good and if they are not your prefered style play something else. It seems to me like you need a game like the Dragon Tales GBC game, I think you would like enough colors to give you a seizure, and not value gameplay. So, Joe Redifer, you have lost all of my respect.

My list of games I don' t like much but almost everyone else seems to go gaga for are: SUPER GT Considered by many hardcore gamers to be the greatest arcade racing game Evar! I couldn' t stand the slippery control scheme, your car drifts regardless of what speed you' re in. Very annoying to make turns in this game.. When it comes to control issues, I' m ALOT less forgiving with racing games than any other genres. SUPER MARIO BROS. 2 Of all the Mario games, Super Mario Bros. 2 is the one I dislike the most. I' ve never been able to get into the vibe of the game. METROID series I don' t dislike the Metroid series I just find them incredibly Overrated. People rave about them as if they' re the end all be all of action games but they just do nothing for me. I mean they' re OK but I' ve played lots better. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG The original Sonic the Hedgehog helped put the Genesis on the map and I' ve always respected the game for doing that but personally I found the original a little boring. The sequels were SOOOOOOOO much better and make it incredibly hard to ever want to go back to the original. BANGAIOH/BANGAI-O I' m actually amazed that so many people love this game. It has the most repetitive bosses I' ve EVER encountered in a game and while the puzzle-shooting elements were OK during the first few levels it just got old by level 12. STREETS OF RAGE 2 &3 I KNOW I' m in the minority here but I thought the original was better than 2 & 3. The sequels were just too clunky to me. I liked the original cause it worked within the limitations of the Genesis and provided a great gameplay experience. Part 2 and 3 however seemed to develop a Final Fight complex by thinking they could work past the Sprite limitations of the Genesis. JAK n DAXTER Of all the games I' ve listed, this is the only one I truly *HATE*. This was no doubt the most boring wannabe platformer I' ve ever encountered. It had without a doubt the WORST soundtrack of any game released this generation and the constant collect-a-thon mixed in with a seemless world did not work for me at all. About the only appealing aspect of the game was Daxter to me.

I can' t stand the Tekken series. To me, it seems way too much of a button-masher, and it feels a bit jerky.

Socom II I couldn' t stand the having to be piatent. Sitting around with a sniper rifle and waiting for five minutes to take out an enemy so you could make it through the level alive annoyed me. And how the levels seemed like they had little relation. Sure, it may be great to others, but it just couldn' t keep me.

Yeah I knew this thread would cause some issues with a few people who can' t accept the fact that not everyone likes the same games they do. " Suck" and " crap" are the only words that some games deserve! I will not waste my time eloquently describing games that make my stomach churn. If I was being paid to review them, then I would grin and bear it. But this is an internet forum. Internet forums are where phrases like " teh ghey" and " 1337" come from. Compared to stuff like that, my descriptions are a breath of fresh air! ..especially when you' re bashing some of the best games and series in video game history. That' s kind of the whole point of this thread, is it not? What did you expect? Do you like every game that is mega-popular? No? Tell us about it.

I take the opposite stance as Terry on Sonic the Hedgehog. I enjoyed the first one quite a bit, and the second one was kind of cool, but not as good. I didn' t like that orange item following you around. But Sonic 2 was the first console game to ever interlace/run in high res... during the two player screens. Sonic 3 seemed to have chunky graphics and a chunky soundtrack. Super Mario 2 (US version) was the best one! I didn' t care too much for Mario 1 and 3 (they were fun, just not as good as part 2). I loved part 4 (Super Mario World).

Luigi' s Mansion I didn' t get. What was so thrilling about the slow gameplay of picking up ghost that came out too close to you? Catching the ghost was a pain as well.

yoshi: The only " interesting threads" you' ll ever participate in are Xbox-related. So don' t try to lecture me on productive posts. Joe: I don' t care what venue this is. Either find a way to tell us intelligently why you dislike the games you mention, or I really don' t want to hear it. You just come across as sounding like a whiny teenager with a massive ego. My problem with words like " suck" and " crap" is that those are direct implications as to the quality of the game. Quality is objective, and not open to your personal opinion. Some facets of gaming are indeed 100% subjective, but others are not. The overall quality of a game can sometimes be very easily evaluated. Saying you " don' t like" a game and saying a game " sucks" are two very different things. For example, I have never liked the Metal Gear series (I prefer SC). However, I' m not stupid enough to say that MGS sucks, because it' s a very high-quality series that simply doesn' t appeal to me. And I have my reasons. By equating the word " suckiness" (which isn' t even a word, but whatever) with FF VII, a game that many believe to be the greatest RPG of all time by both critics and gamers, you' re stating something that is INCORRECT. It' s not an opinion. You hated the game, fine. You don' t like it. It doesn' t mean it " sucks." " Suck" implies an objective evaluation on the quality of something, which you say is poor. You can hate it all you want; the quality of FF VII is anything but poor. Get it?

Same old fathoms, different old forums... Is it my fault that Xbox Live has stolen my time for playing any games on any other system? To say that I spend the majority of my time outside of threads without something to do with the Xbox is true, but that doesn' t mean I just read those threads alone. I' ve probably read almost every new thread as I do like to have a general idea of what' s going on in the gaming world. Fathoms suffers from the " I' ve always got to be right" disorder as you will probably see during your stay here, or you might have already seen if you are a veteran. The whole point of this thread methinks was to have a friendly laugh at someone dissing your favorite game. Some games up there I personally like, others I haven' t played but I know they are good. In comes fathoms telling everyone how they should complain about a game, and poof, there goes the fun. Oh, and here are some games that I' m going to hate right now just out of spite: Ninja Gaiden-Crap, crap, crap, crappity, crap, crap. Suck crap, suckity, crap, CRAPTACULAR, SUCKTACULAR, crap, crap, suck, suck, sucky, crap, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suckity suck suck! Chronicles of Riddick-Crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, crappity, crap, crap. Suck crap, suckity, crap, suck, crap, suck, crap, suckity suck suck, CRAP!! I am not joking...that is truly how I feel about those games, in those exact words.

Well Fathoms, my post was mainly supposed to be humorous and not a definitive review. The game sucks to me. I understand what you are saying, but it' s all subjective anyway. You' re just gonna have to live with it. Oh well. Somehow both your life and my life will go on.
