How many years to maximum relaistic game graphics? - Apr 14, 2004 17:51
How many more years do you think itll be before we reach a point of realism that it' ll be near impossible to til photos form ingame screenshots apart? (graphics)

Brothers in Arms

Driv3r

GT4

Game graphics have grown incredibly fast ... I give it before 2010..btw this question isnt really a question more of a thing to make you wonder.

I think we' ve already reached that point.

Grand Theft Auto 3 was a fine example. I couldn' t tell the difference between the skanky hoes in the game from the real things out on the corner of 42nd street.

I think we already somewhat reached that point.
Take a look how realistic final fantasy: the spirits within was.
I also heard rumors that the movie actually had to dumb down the graphics (so they were supposedly even better) because of the possibility of the " wrong people" being able to do it and fabricate footage of people (e.g. make a video of the president saying certain things).
Whether there is any truth to this rumor, I don' t know but the movie was pretty realistic

I think we have a little ways till we get to perfect, we can almost always improve in some way or another. Graphics today are really good, but i think they can get even better!

Chances are it there will always be some tiny aspect that will have to be perfected.
So it may take awhile for it to be 100% perfect (if possible) but as for right now they are pretty good.

yes indeed its possible for video, but what about real-time, in-game...

With the way Advent Children is turning out, I dont see that rumor as being too impossible.

I' m guessing the generation after the next generationof consoles will pretty much have photo realistic graphics. Once we hit that point the hard part will be perfecting animation and physics. One we hit photo realism though we' ll probably head into a new direction.
