Holy crap a sequel to System Shock 2? That' s great! System Shock 2 was and still is the only game that has really scared me.
Any game can give you cheap thrills and scares with with things flying out of the dark unexpectedly. Doom 3 is a perfect example of this - it grows less scary as the gameplay dynamic changes the further along you go. The cheap thrills wear off after 30 mins.
But System Shock 2 was entirely different. System Shock 2 never made me jump. Instead, it had my mind soaked in dread as I journeyed through the ship, knowing I was alone and very vunerable with limited ammo. System Shock 2 was more a hang you on the edge of your seat for every single second of gameplay. Pure atmosphere, and in my opinion
A LOT harder to do properly than simply make someone jump. SS2 Creates a far better atmosphere for a place that has gone deep into shit creek. The RPG elements added to your character and the fact that you had to rely more on brains than brawn in bits of the game helped as well.
I greatly look forward to see what Bioshock has in store for us here.
