I always thought that you could get 1080P on the ' original' 360 as long as you TV was capable of it. If that is the case then what cables are best.

It can do it if your TV accepts 1080p over the component inputs. There is no technical reason why this can' t be done.

I use the component cables that were included for 1080p with my tv. It works flawlessly. I' ve had to use VGA on a different TV that didn' t support 1080p via component. Not all do.

edit:
I' ve never been able to directly compare them because I' ve never used a 1080p TV with VGA that supports 1080p through component.

As far as I can tell there was no distortion or signal loss on either.

However, I' ve used a 720p tv that can take in a 1080p signal through component and downscale to its native resolution of 1366x768(or something) and it looked better than just sending the tv a 720p signal, but there seemed to be a slight amount of signal degragation(random pixels being grey sometimes). It looked best using VGA and sending it a 1366x768 signal.

I doubt there would be a difference if you had the choice between VGA and component with a native 1080p tv. You could just use component and if you are getting some degragation get the VGA adapter.
