Well thats what Sony says, somehow im not believing they will release a new console in only 4 years time.

Despite—or maybe because of—one analyst raising a furor with comments about a PS4 being unlikely, Sony' s VP of Technology says a PS4 will be launched by Sony. He throws down.

To say that there will be no PS4 because of a management change is a bit far fetched.
VP Paul Holman also reiterates the PS3' s " processing power" and that it' s not really a gaming console as much as an all-in-one entertainment center. He said the PS3 could possibly come with a keyboard and mouse to let users easily access the net or use third-party OSes installed on the machine. PS4 in 2010? Hell at this rate by then most people will finally be getting their own PS3 for fucksake...

So much for the 10 year shelf life , but i doubt this will happen ...

2010, means that sony has to begin doing research and start building proto types of hardware within a year or so, with the bill not even payed for researching the PS3, and the loans increasing with the manufacturing of the PS3, i dont see them doing that untill 2012/13 and thats if the PS3 starts making them money!

With 6 years of projected losses on PS3 i wouldn' t bank on it.

This comes is a realisation from Sony that the other platforms ARE a threat to them. Remember all the bluster about how far ahead the technology was and that it would be a 10 year platform. This is a very dubious situation for Sony, They are much more likely to be hard at work spending hundreds of thousands on their cost reduction deveopment at present than even looking at the next technology for PS4. That shouldnt happen for a year at least. Although research into potential future hardware never stops in a good company.

If they can turn profit for a solid 5 years or more at minimum. but seriously, I cant see them EVER doing things this way again. Especially with hardware shortages, development difficulties and some studios holding titles back.

Unless BR suddenly wins the fomat war! But that has as much to do with which format PC consumers / system builders run with.

If this would turn out true, I' d honestly consider skipping Ps3 and wait for 4... That is, if it' s backwards compatible.

Lol, and people complained about the Xbox' s life span being too short (which it probably was). Sony going back on their word again. What a big surprise. I doubt they have the funds to do this unless they plan on taking out even more loans.

No. Sony has said they have been working on the ps4, kinda like the spring ' 06 release . Besides, The even if they have been working on the design, that has nothing to do with the hardware, which they will not have enough money to do after the ps3 flops. Yes, Nintendo did do that, but Nintendo had the money to do it. And finally, i dont see the ps4(If there will ever be a such) being that cheap

Like PS1 and probably PS2, PS3 will more than likely have a lifespan of around 10 years. 6 years as their main machine and a futher 4 as a buget console, much like the PS2 is poised to become.

I don' t recall Sony ever saying that PS3 would be their main platform for 10 years, though I could be wrong, seeing as they' ve claimed mostly everything else.

Well if they can turn around the estimated 6.8 billion dollar operating loss Merril Lynch predicts sony will sustain over 5 years of selling ps3s then i see no problem with sony making a ps4.

i doubt the ps4 will come out around 2010...

it' s got a longer lifespan than that, xbox however going on current trends has about 3 years left in her
