Heavenly Sword, now with low-res textures... - Apr 10, 2007 08:26
Not. Fucking. Impressed.

I know the screens are small. Blame Gamepro. That aside, check out the awfully low resolution, flat, ugly textures!

Oh, and don' t miss the angular tree trunk in the first screen...[:' (]

The game as a whole looks great, but i fear the environments will be lacking compared to other next-gen titles and that the focus will be on detailed character models like in Resistance.

That said, some of the games texture work looks pretty good...

...flat, but detailed enough for me not to complain that the floor doesn' t look next-gen enough...

They need to deliver with this game. Fucking it up would be a huge blow to Sony and none of their titles have impressed visually so far. MotorStorm has awesome physics, particle effects and lighting, but it' s still lacking texture-wise.

Shame that this isn' t even 60fps. That would have at least have been something...

Frankly, I care more about animations, AI and, physics than I do about graphics. As long as the graphics are functional. I' m happy if it doesn' t look like something Wii would have. Poor textures won' t break a game.

Sorry bud, but didn' t get around to looking at the tree.

It' s a solid looking game, just, a smidge smudgey. (heh, smidge smudgey, funny)

I don' t know much about how well textures progress during development, but I can' t imagine them being much better than that when it releases. Despite having suprisingly passable textures, the environments seem to be incredibly well designed.

Sigma shows that really detailed textures are possible...

...Ninja Theory really have no excuse, especially with the game being in development for so long now.

Yeah, but look at the Xbox 1.0 dead ninja they borrowed for that screencap.

This' ll be releasing about the time I' m planning on getting a PS3, so I' ll at least rent it. I wonder how it looks in motion.

i agree with you nitro about the textures, i' m very disapointed, looks like sony is about to embarass itself ... again... but i have high hopes in other big games and developers.

now, check out that !! mass effect looks to be awesome , yes we know, but the environment is not something i call impressive, still character models are mind blowing !!

Andy Serkis makes this game.

Makes?
Uh... unless there is another guy with that name, Andy Serkis is the guy who played Gollum in LOTR.
He does play that king in the game. You' ve probably seen him in the trailers. King Botan.

EGM says Andy Serkis ' makes' the game. Besides the voice-acting, possibly he might be a co-producer? Heck, maybe he did some more motion capture.

Must' ve subconsciously stole that from EGM. In any case, I agree with it, which is odd, because EGM is run by a gaggle of idiots.

Theyre owned by the same company and basically EGM uses 1up instead of making their own site.

EGM and 1UP are both pretty fucking terrible. EGM invents its own brand of suck, however.

Andy Serkis is the dramatic director of the game, about the textures i wouldnt judge just yet, sony is amazing at releasing captures of dated builds, besides the game looks absolutely stunning in motion

http://www.playsyde.com/news_4067_en.aspx

on top of that, as agent ghost said, bad textures just wont ruin a game, there are much more important things both gameplay wise and even in terms of visuals, like the lighting, bitch all you want if they cut the number of animations.

Granted, but this is Sony first-party and the kind of game that' s supposed to show us what the machine is capable of.

I mean, i understand why Sigma loos better, but it also runs at a constant 60fps. This runs at 30 like Tomb Raider: Legend - a game that will have been on 360 more than 12 months when Heavenly Sword hits, and Tomb Raider: Legend is still graphically nicer (in general).

Heavenly Sword looks amazing. It' s one of my most anticipated PS3 games, ...i just expected more.
