GTA4 - Mar 30, 2007 00:20
Since the trailer is coming out in 7 hours [at time of writing]. What do you think they will do? will there be many changes or will it just be gta with better graphics?

I sure hope not, becuase if it is, then I will not get it!
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.

Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

My prediction is that they will take everything that made GTA III a hit and make it better. It won' t be a Saints Row clone the way that Saits Row is a clone of GTA III. They won' t change the basic formula, they' re just going to try to make improvements. Obvioulsy graphics and physics but also the controls and animations will improve dramatically I hope. I' m sure they had a lot of ideas and things they wanted to do with GTAIII but couldn' t due to limitations with the PS2.

There are four things they have to keep in GTA4 from the previous games to make it a hit.

-Things to do. There is so much shit you can do in GTA you just can' t get sick of the game if you have an imagination.

-Difficulty, GTA is notoriously difficult (later levels). Some missions feel like mission impossible except you' re a fucking gangtster. In some cases the only solution is to provoke the army so you can steal a fucking tank. It' s crazy and I fucking love it. So keep the difficulty up in the later missions.

-Humour, the satire in GTA is nearly unmatched in any other videogame. The dialogue and radio stations are fucking hilarious in some cases. How many games can you beat a cop with a dildo? Fun for the whole family!

-Cheats, some gamers are really suck up about this and refuse to cheat in any games, even if it' s a single player game. But in GTA, the cheats are awsome. They add a whole new layer to the game and multiply the possibilities. So they need to have cheats in GTA4. Not to beat the missions, just to be able to do some crazy stunts.

It will be violent and you' ll be able to steal cars. But seriously, they HAVE to do something different with this one, not just stealing cars in different time periods and bigger maps.

The ' IV' makes me think it will be something different. I expect we' ll be able to steal a space shuttle in this one!

Yeah but the third game was III and not 3 anyway.

They still haven' t done anything proper with Carcer City as far as the GTA games go. We;ve only seen it in Manhunt, and only heard about it in the GTA games.

A game set in the 70' s would be cool, as would it being set in a New York-esque city, ...but to be honest i' m getting a seriously bored with the same old shit. GTA2 was set in the future and there' s enough scope there. It just depends whether they' ve got the balls to make such a drastic change.

GTA is one of the few series I' ve actually been interested in from the very start. I remember being 12 and trying to buy the first game for PC and being turned away. So I got my dad to go in and buy it for me 30 seconds later, bwahaha. We both spent ages laughing at the madness.

Anyway, GTA IV should be fantastic and I can' t wait to see this trailer. Roughly 3 and a half hours left...

They need to set it in a South American or Asian locale. Or better yet, make it possible to travel from country to country instead of just different parts of a single city.

As for the whole Hot Coffee debacle, I think the programmers were trying to leave something in there that the PC modding community could find and have fun with... but they completely underestimated the uproar that ensued. Leaving it in the console version was a huge mistake.

True, cheats are what make that game fun, but i wonder if they' ll still have them because of the achievements would be easier to get

Cheats are ok now and again to use. Saints row was irritating in its use of cheats -use them and you couldn' t get achievements anymore on that game even if you could turn them off.

Also I never had a problem with hot coffee as a concept, GTASA was an adult game so adding in a sexual content did not clash with the violence, even if was implemented in an immature way. I don' t think it was intended to be found, it was programmed by the UK based developers where this sort of thing is less of an issue, but as soon as it got to US testers they tried to block it out in the best way they could, but probablt couldn' t remove it all without messing up the rest of the code.

Anyway GTAIV will be up soon!!!!!

Were going back to Liberty City ladies and gentlemen. Modern day setting, looks nice for a sandbox game but it' s nothing special. It does look vast though which is good, but i' m seriously unimpressed at how limited Rockstar' s game design has become.

The main character also appears to be some sort of Eastern European or Russian immigrant.

Screens stolen from GAF who in turn got them from somewhere else...

^ Agree. Though I liked the New York setting and thought the enviorment looked good, I thought the trailer showed too little to be impressed.

Hmmm, I' m intrigued. I’d take a huge focused city over an empty state any day and I’m sure there 1000’s of tricks up Rockstars sleeves. It looks sexy though, can’t wait to see more. A Russian dude though I wasn’t expecting.

of course it isn' t a guarantee that the character in the trailer is the one you play as, it could be someone you are up against - Rockstar may be trying to pull a fast one.

I thought the expanses of SA showed a different side to the game, a city-only scenario could end up like a slightly shinier Saint' s row.

i thought the damn thing would be set in the futur, i had high hopes for this idea, think how many ideas could rockstar bring to the game if they have opted that. i didn' t see the trailer yet but the screens do look good for a massive enviroment games , it' s pretty neat. i hope the gameplay will not be totaly recycled.

Maah, I dont know what to think. So the ' IV' was just a reference to ' III' with nicer graphics? Or will they revamp the whole idea behind GTA and make the entire thing less cartoony and more gritty - kinda like ' III' the way it could have been with more processing power for AI, lifecycles, environment weathering etc...

I think the environments look fantastic, there' s so much detail and the lighting is just right. I' d be pleased if they followed through and revolutionised the gameplay too by making it more realistic, creating a living breathing city where the people arent such cartoons, and things dont just spawn at one end of the street to disappear when out of sight.

I suppose the humour would look a little out of place then. I wonder if a serious GTA would sell...

The graphics look nice if they can pull off physics and large numbers of people in firefights without any noticeable slowdown and keep the FPS high.

Past that, the video doesn' t show enough to speculate on the features thus far. I would buy it even if it wasn' t any different than the others gameplay wise, largely because I still love the huge open driving environments and chases. Sandbox gameplay takes a long time to get old, and if the driving physics are right, they can keep me playing for a long time.

That said, lets hope they really push for more than just a prettier game. I would definitely like to see water/air travel polished and done well, and I would prefer a smaller city with fully fleshed buildings which you can go into rather than a huge one with buildings with no inside. This would immerse you in the game much more than the past games, and is one of the aspects they could definitely improve upon.

Oh, and hopefully there is less swearing. I f*cking couldn' t take the sh!t mouthed dialogue from CJ in SA.

i finaly saw the trailer and it really looks amazing, much better than pictures. From the accent , as many people say, it' s either middle eastern guy or from eastern europe or russian. middle eastern people don' t have mafia in the culture so the character wouldn' t really fit in the world of GTA, a russian (or from eastern europe) though would make much more sense.

I finally downloaded it, and the graphics were much much better than i had expected, and it sounds like it has a decent plot to it, unlike the other games where all you do is do retarded missions like killing people on a golf course with a golf club

The low-res shadow maps are distracting, but this is an issue with all next-gen games from what I' ve seen so far.

NYC is a great place to actually visit, but not so interesting to me as a setting in a video game.

I think it looks great. The rest of the locations are dull and sad. This game would have looked really great if it were made last gen. Right now it just looks like a mediocre this gen game

GTA (Liberty City, Vice City, San Andreas)
GTA London (Erm, ...London)
GTA2 (Anywhere City)
GTA III (Liberty City)
GTA III: Vice City (Vice City)
GTA III: San Andreas (San Andreas)
GTA III: Liberty City Stories
GTA III: Vice City Stories

Liberty City = New York
Vice City = Miami
San Andreas = San Fransisco

GTA IV will be the forth time we' ve played in Liberty City, it' s time to move on now.

I' m sure the game will be awesome but do they really have to re-make the same game again?

I agree, while this may be a more fleshed out and impressive New York City, its still a similar setting. At least Liberty City was always my favorite as far as terrain went. Vice city had my favorite story.

San Andreas was Los Angeles(first island), San Francisco(second island), and Las Vegas(third island).

To me this looks like liberty city stories but from the viewpoint of another gang. I agree with both Nitro and the Chief. The location has been done before and yes the graphics look pretty they are nothing special for a next gen game, it almost reminded me of " The Godfather." to some extent.

Hahaha, ....well it' s not necessarily the location itself because i' m sure it' ll look completely different than in the previous games. It' s just that they seem unwilling to take any real risks, ...which i partially understand because of their weak financial situation. I' d just hoped for something more, something else.

The game is destined to be a huge success and it' s destined to draw the same kind of criticism the previous games faced which will not do them any good. After Table Tennis i' d hoped to see Rockstar turn their talents to other genres, but they seem to be unable to make anything else stick.

The GTA game have been massive technical achievements of their release platforms, and i' m certain this will be just as groundbreaking, but with games like Saints Row 2, Driver PS3 and The Getaway coming, Rockstar need to be cautious because their one-trick-pony won' t keep them going forever.

...but all we' ve seen is the location and a glimps at the graphics. What makes you think those other games will even come close to GTA? Saints Row blows, The Getaway is trash and Drive sucks. None of those are in the same league as GTA. I' m not even sure Drive is a sandbox game at all.

GTA is not a one trick pony. GTA is like TES series, a lot of imitators but none even come close. GTA has so much depth and so many different layers. I just dusted off GTAIII and I' m still finding things I missed. I' m not even conserned about their finacial state either. If they have to borrow money to produce the game they will do so.

I guess it' s useless to argue at this point. I' d rather just wait and see. However, I stand by my prediction. GTA4>the rest.

It looks like they have kept their traditional humour and satire - paticularly like the advert for the film in chick-flick style for ' I slept with your Mom'

I beg to differ, try going to Kharkov in the Ukraine, the mafia is absolutely rife out there, as it is in lithuania and most former communist run countries.
