There would have to be more changes than that. PS3' s can take any capacity 2.5" hard drive so just upping the size would be a bit redundant.

well since they are cost reduceing a bigger hard drive wouldnt make much sense. Unless they plan to officaly sell it seprately like the 360 hdd.

Hard drives are cheap ass though.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.

Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

They wouldn' t spend all that money for so little back. Expect to see the " Official Sony PS3 2.5 Bazilliobyte HDD" , but not this.

Is it just me or is it odd that they are countering the 120 gb HD with an 80? I mean it seems pointless to me. A jump from 20 GB to 120 GB is a large jump, but 60GB to 80GB? Just wouldnt make sense

That wouldn' t be the case. If they wanted to compete, they could just put a bigger HD in.

I imagine its more along the lines of price. They could have possibly found a supplier offering 80gb HD' s for little to no increase in cost, so they could simply switch over to the 80gb HD' s over time.

If you want to beat the 120gb Xbox all it takes is $140 and you will have yourself a much faster 160GB HD. Or just buy another 80gb HD for $60 and have 140gb split between two drives.

It does seem that MS and Sony are getting into a rather juvenile mine is bigger than yours situation. Not that I mind as long as we as the punter gets a better deal.

Wouldnt that make the ps3 even more expensive than it already is?

Yeah, but if the Xbox 360 and the PS3 happen to be your only access to passable HD videos (my computer faints at the sight of 480p), then a bigger HDD is worth it to some people. In the end, I' m most likely going to be using my PS3, because yeah, the 360 has a really nice system going for it with music, but I don' t always want to have an external HDD plugged in for photos, movies and videos I didn' t get from Marketplace.

If the PS3 is going to do anything involving a larger HDD, expect them to make 80gig the standard in the premium (with no price raise of course), or provide a seperate 120 or 160 at a slightly lower price than the 360' s. Those are the only two logical moves I can see them making. Well, either that or downloading more HDD space via their " nothing" network.

Yup. Just a smidgen bigger than a googalbyte.

Meh, I figure why bother. I can stream HD from my PC to my 360, & that' ll do for now.

I only ever use my PC for photo-editing & websurfing anyway. This thing used to be top of the line... god only knows when, & it didn' t make me any happier, so I slowly stopped updating. PC rigs are a rich man' s sport.

I did almost pick up a decent PC back when I was getting my tax returns, but I ended up blowing it on modding supplies & games.

LOL
i was exactly the same way for a while, i updated my PC every year just to squeeze a little more performance on synthetic benchmarks. Fortunately i saw the light and have since ceased buying any new computer components (save for a bigger hard drive). I was planning to build a PC soon after Vista came out, but due to the lack of games (now and the forseeable future) i' m interested in i have put that on hold. Spending thosuands on a new system with no new games i' m excited about is IMO a waste of money, especially considering that its a pure gaming rig (ie its not used to surf the web, video edit, work etc, its built just for games). I do hope that changes soon, but luckly i' m enjoying the games i have on the Wii, so i can wait.

BTW my current gaming rig is more then 2 years old, and definately showing its age.

I' m putting a 100GB on mine soon.

I can' t believe how cheap Microsoft is about the hard drives, 20GB HDDs for $99 of which you can only use 12GB (I believe, it' s been a while since I had the displeasure of owning a 360).

And people complain about PS3s not coming with a an HDMI cable you can get at any electronic store for under $20, lol, the Xbox360 practically doesn' t have a hard drive, 12GB of space = don' t even bother.

13 actually.

From the 20; 1Gb for the machine' s OS, 2Gb for the Xbox emulator and 4Gb for game caching and enhanced asset streaming.

I think I read somewhere that the reason the HDD on 360 is so expensive is because MS has to pay royalties to Nvidia to allow ATI to emulate xbox games. Basically gamers are paying for expensive HDDs to have BC with xbox games. I guess MS decided to put their fuck up* on the back of the consumers.

*the fuck up I' m talking about was not buying the rights to the gpu for xbox like the did with the 360. Basically Nvidia owns the rights for the gpu in xbox, same deal with Intel and the CPU. MS had to pay Nvidia and Intel to manufacure each GPU and CPU in the Xbox. Which is largely why we never go to see a really cheap xbox. With the 360 MS learned form their mistake and bought the rights from ATI for the GPU and did the same with the CPU from IBM.

Young pup. Don' t talk to me about 2 year old obselecence. You don' t want to know how old my computer is.

On that subject, what do you think of the way PS3 manages media? Compared to 360 & Wii I mean.

Ps3 dosent allow a full 60gb use either. I think about 5gb is used for the os and stuff right?
