European PS3 gets smaller Cell chip
-
Mar 10, 2007 09:02
Sony aims to roll out Cell chips with a smaller circuity width (the new ones will be 65-nanometers as compared to the current 90-nano ones). Narrow circuitry means smaller chips, lowering production costs. I dunno if you guys know this or not. but anyway. More with the cost cutting, But this time it means good news for us right? a smaller chip is faster and quiet[er] and not to mention cheaper to produce.

Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine. Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

65nm processes are awesome, but the break isn' t getting passed on to the consumer. That combined with the removal of entire chips (emotion engine for example) puts Playstation 3 production costs in the black again within the next year or two.
