This is becoming more and more the norm these days, why is it that companies are starting to subscribe to the sony school of thought, you know the one, we promise to deliver this on this date but it ends up being delayed by some months. It starts to get disheartening as I had this years gaming all planned out.

Blizzard is always on track! They only commit to a date when the game is more or less gold!

The more high-profile, big-budget titles get squeezed into the last few months of the year, the more precarious everyone' s finances become.

Diablo 2 had so many delays it' s not even funny. Warcraft stories never even came out. Warcraft 3 had delays too.

I' m not criticizing them at all mind you. I have made posts in the past commending them for how they work. Sure I hated when they kept delaying games, but the games were always of the utmost quality and polish. I prefer a game is delayed and comes out good, than a game that is rushed and is a bit skimpy on quality, polish, or length.

I mentioned Blizzard because I dislike such statements as

why is it that companies are starting to subscribe to the sony school of thought, you know the one, we promise to deliver this on this date but it ends up being delayed by some months

Yes, Sony is the first company to ever delay games or products............

There are plenty of other game makers that have delayed games in the past, and present(HL2 Episode 2/Portal/TFC2), but I mentioned blizzard because it is a high quality game maker, that stands out, but is also widely known to have had very long delays on past games. Again I will re-iterate, I hold nothing against Blizz for their delays, they always came out with a good game at the end of them, and if they felt it necessary to delay a product to ensure quality, then good for them. If Bioshock needs more time in development then so be it. It' s 100x harder to fix a games problems once its for sale, so taking more time to release it only makes sense if the devs feel it is necessary.

edit: I put " unnecessary" down instead of " necessary"
