I can' t figure it out.

" When you smile at me a smile back.
When you hear me scream you also hear me die
I make small houses look like mansions
I can climb high mountains but cannot swim."


I thought it was an echo or a shadow but apparently those are not it.

I believe i heard this one a long time ago but can' t remember exactly.
I was also thinking a shadow but you said that wasn' t it.

You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I' m asking because i don' t know.

I' d think Fog...but the scream part doesn' t fit that >.<

Thanks Agent, now you got me confused. This riddle is head wreaking, if somebody knows the answer, tell us!

It' s not a reflection either according to the guy who gave me the riddle.

How about Steam, it got to do something with hot air i think. Steam whistles when it ?dies when boiling water, it rises while cool air falls..not to sure how it smiles back.
How about Light?

Maybe he was just talking about himself?

Is it, " When you smile at me a smile back," or, " When you smile at me I smile back" ?

Because if it' s the first one, I don' t understand the first line at all.

It could be either. The guy must have given me about 20 different riddles and I think he made this one up out of fustration after I solved his other ones. Bastard...Slilent I' ll find out where he lives.

A mirror would work with the first three lines, but not the fourth.

Nope. I don' t know who this guy is either. If you said guy smiley then yeah.

Me, too. I' ve been trying to come up with something, anything that could fit.

An echo or a voice could work for all lines but the last. Sound can definitely " swim," as it travels even better through water than it does through air.

A mirror or other reflective device wouldn' t work because they can' t " scream" or die, and they can' t climb mountains, literally or metaphorically.

Wind or air wouldn' t work because it can' t " smile" in any way.



Okay, let' s try to analyse it line by line:

" When you smile at me a/I smile back." - This would mean it' s not completely inanimate, and it' s reactive to a person' s presence somewhat.

" When you hear me scream you also hear me die" - Sound is important. A scream could refer to any loud, sharp, or sudden sound. I don' t know what to make of it' s connection with death.

" I make small houses look like mansions" - It is either small, or can cause a perspective change in a person.

" I can climb high mountains, but cannot swim." - This is the most confusing line for me. It' s movement through air is not impeded, as it can climb mountains easily, but it can' t enter water.

Did you type it the same as you received it, Agent Ghost, or was it spoken to you? Lines 2 and 3 are missing end punctuation. I' m probably jumping at shadows at this point, but that seems important somehow.

I' m fully stumped. Anyone else with ideas or observations?

With the thought of it being a mirror, I was thinking that " screaming" was referring to the sound it would make when shattering. But I can' t think of any reason why a mirror would work better on a mountain than underwater.

Maybe it' s silence.

The longest walk I ever took was from my room to the kitchen on the other side of my house when no-one was home.

I can climb high mountains but cannot swim

This, I' m not so sure of, but maybe it refers to that weird whirling hum you get in your ears when you put your head underwater.

Good thoughts but sound actually travels a lot farther in water than in air.

How about a train. It looks at tho it smiles, it climb mountains, not water, it screams when it stops and we.. the small house looking like mansions,maybe its backwards to mean mansions look like small houses?
