Aw man that sucks! I am not surprised that the guy smokes, as slobs (which this guy obviously was) usually do smoke. So you get the privilege of smelling his lovely environment via your new Dreamcast as well.

Yeah, actually Joe, that was the first tip-off that the thing was bunk. I opened it up & smelled smoke, & something else kinda stanky. (Later found to be humidity+dead bugs. That shouldn' t smell that bad!)

If you think it might be the connectors on the AV port, you can try taking some very fine sandpaper and rubbing it over the pins. Then clean them with alcohol.

That' s what I tried after I tore apart/cleaned it. It worked on about 5 of the pins, but it seems to be structural with certain ones, you file down to where the rust stops & you hit plastic. Hopefully those are the useless ones used for uber-scart or something obscure. Not really in the mood to look up pin config on my DC.

Already did one, too bad I can' t get on Ebay to finish the job. And that' s the funny thing, he had 99.2% positive after 600 or so transactions. I' ll post his response to my angry feedback & letter if I can find it.

I worked on it a bit more today, & it seems that the parts I need are more expensive than getting a new Dreamcast. Soooo, I' ll be sanding it, priming it & using it as a proving ground for my new(ish) 360 case mod. ' Aint nothin' like roaches in your consumer electronics to get you going on a project eh?
