UT2007 renamed / officially announced for 360!!!
-
Jan 25, 2007 19:40
...[:' (] It' s now called Unreal Tournament III. CVG has learnt that Midway will rename Unreal Tournament 2007, Unreal Tournament III, even though the upcoming shooter is the fourth game in the series. First there was Unreal Tournament, then Unreal Tournament 2003, which was followed a year later by Unreal Tournament 2004. Count ' em, that three UT games already out there, with UT 2007 on the horizon. CVG has learnt that Midway and developer Epic will be announcing a slightly confusing name change for the hotly-anticipated Unreal shooter soon, possibly later today. We believe that the name change is to coincide with the game using the latest Unreal engine, cleverly dubbed Unreal Engine III. Midway is currently holding a Gamers' Day press event in the US. CVG is there (not me, I' m still in the office) but we' ll get confirmation as soon as we can. LINK I don' t get it. Is it going to slip into next year then?

True but when you think about it 2003 an 2004 were almost exactly the same... apart from sum new (fixed) levels an player models etc.

Different name same dead arm, I will definitely look for UT3 this year, great series.
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.

I think it is a smart move on their part to change it to UT3. Some people assumed there would be a new game every year because of the year in the name. UT2k3 was basically just a sneak preview of UT2k4. It was to get the community going and ready for UT2k4. (Epic said it themselves) Tons of custom content and servers were ready at the launch of UT2k4. UT2k4 added about 30 levels, vehicles, a bunch of game types and improved everything that could be improved.

US, January 25, 2007 - Punching home a message that Midway is coming to the next-generation with a full stable of goods, the Chicago-based publisher today announced that the game formerly known as Unreal Tournament 2007 is now Unreal Tournament 3. And it' s coming to the PC, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft' s Xbox 360 in the second half of 2007. Using the Unreal Engine 3 (what other engine would it really use?), Epic' s seminal first-person shooter will douse gamers with gorgeous, life-like graphics, arm them with unbelievable futuristic and brutal weaponry, and hurl them into online deathmatches like never before. The new game comprises a vast number of changes from increased aggressiveness and intelligence in the AI to better, more ridiculously powerful weapons to new characters, game modes, and online improvements. New weapons are highlighted by the long-range Shock Rifle and the shorter range Flack Cannon, and more than two dozen weapons will be ready to wield when UT3 is ready in the second half of 2007. The new single-player campaign is deeper and more engaging than before, and players will be happy to know that old favorite characters have returned and are joined by several new ones. Epic plans to provide advanced online changes to suit all three platforms, bringing seamless loading, improved matchmaking and co-operative campaign online play. Yes, cooperative online play indeed. Familiar online modes such as Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be joined by an all-new Warfare mode among others. And PC gamers will be happy to get their sweaty mitts on the bundled Unreal Engine Toolset, enabling them to build their own levels, game types, rules, mods, and more. We' ll have more on Unreal Tournament 3 soon. In the meantime check the new screens and video. LINK

Sweet. So will 360 be privy to the free user created mods too over live? (although that might require a bigger harddrive). I tried building a few levels myself using the UTEd, but they ended up shit, heh..

Great levels! I like the idea for the abyss and xtralift ones. Mine were trying to emulate a game called UFO, but in first person obviously. They were going well until I realised I' d never have enough time to finish it the way I wanted it. Also made one like Doom on the original UT, but then Doom3 came and did it better, heh. [:' (]

I' m definetly getting it for PC but if you can download and play user created content on the 360 I may consider getting it for both so I can test out my stuff.
