Noob tech question about Xbox Internet Configuration
-
Dec 27, 2006 02:06
I just got myself a 360 and it' s fun and all but I can' t seem to get it connected to the Internet. I' ve plugged in the ethernet cabel straight into my 360. But when I try to go through those connection setup thingies it says that the 360 isn' t getting an IP adress... But it does say that I have a wired network. Um... so... what do I do? I' m sure this is a no brainer for you guys but for a guy like me who barely knows what an IP adress is... it' s a huge problem

You' ve got it plugged in via your PC? Or is the ethernet cable from a router/modem or something? I' ve got mine plugged in via my PC, and it' s just a case of setting up a home network in network settings. The 360 takes a while to recognise the network, but if you put it through that connection test thingy, it picks it up eventually...

I' ve got it plugged directly to a modem. I can' t plug it into my PC because my PC only has one ethernet connection. Unless I connect the PC with a USB connection but that seems like a lot of trouble.

Ah well then a couple of resets and connection tests might do the trick. Sometimes the 360 takes its time to see the connection, but it should find the IP address automatically.

Well, it worked. I restared both the 360 and the modem a couple of times and now it works. Weird. So... if I want to download something from the marketplace, how long will it take? What are the upload speeds like?

Download time depends of course.. For downloading stuff in the 1 gig range I just start the download and then go watch a movie or take a long a$$ shower, by the time I' m done, so is the download. Files that are around 250 MB or less take me several minutes..

That is almost completely dependent on your connection ginjirou.

Consider yourself lucky it worked then, I actually had to buy a 4-port router, because my modem is a piece of crap & didn' t recognise my 360. What' s download speed like? For me? Yes I actually charted it out. 950 MB= 1 Hour 500 MB= 25 Min 300 MB= 12 Min 10 MB = 1-2 Min Those are about the average filesizes on XBLM. Not counting movies of course. So, you' re on your 360? Gamertag?

I find that it depends on greatly the time of day, if the server is under load. Usually I experience fast enough download speeds but downloading a new game demo for an anticipated game for example can take long if everyone is trying at the same time. Also, get Geometry Wars, it' s still the best Arcade Game. No one here at Kikizo is yet to beat my high score. No one on my friends list at least. Agent Ghost is my gamer tag...add me

I get a gig in about 20 minutes as long as the servers aren' t overloaded. As for the modem thing, you have to have established an IP address before you turn your 360 on. Either that or it' ll stay offline until you launch and then quit a game. I don' t know whether it makes a difference if you have a static IP but it works this way for me and i have a dynamic IP.

Ginjirou, what speed is your connection? Do you have any restrictions on your download speed? Eddie you have something wrong there my friend, or do you have a lot of machines on your network all using the interweb at the same time? Home network is running 2 desktops, 2 laptops(Most of the time), 2 laptops(some of the time) and the 360 and I can download 800Mb in about 30 mins. That is wirelessly as well if I was wired then it would be quicker(By about 5-10%). ps who is this asshole ^^^

I am just happy to have broadband, Dial-up was evil, I have 1mb, I might upgrade to 2mb. To download 1 gig for me, it takes about 3-4hours. No biggie, just leave it download and do something else for a while.

I have a 8 mbit connection but I' m sure as hell not downloading in 8 mbit I chose a waaaay too complicated name for my gamertag so I wanted to change it, but I just noticed that you' ll have to pay points to do that... Also, what' s up with the machines noise And that powerbrick Thank God that Gears of War is a good game though Are there any other games for the 360 that are worth buying? I mean awesome games, not decent games.

Um... I know you did... um... so I... uh... wrote that... in honour of your old thread. Yeah, that' s it! It was to honour your thread that I chose to mention that again. It' s obvious we all know about the noise already so what other reason could there have been for me to mention that again, other than honouring your thread?

ORIGINAL: ginjirou Thank God that Gears of War is a good game though Are there any other games for the 360 that are worth buying? I mean awesome games, not decent games. Rainbow Six: Vegas, Dead Rising (if you can deal with the odd save mechanic), Kameo (it' s very short though), Moto GP 2006, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, GRAW (although th controls seem really stiff and " last gen" compared to RB6)... Obviously games like Oblivion, CoD2/3 etc you will have played/will play on your PC so they' re not worth mentioning.

If you want something to give you some light relief try Star Wars Lego ( I know it is aimed at children but the humour is fantastic.)

Oh no,not that guy,now we gonna have to hear,WELL I OWN A 360 AND I THINK BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA. Yes,by owning a console you lose the fanboy stamp? Just stfu. Thye noise? you cant hear it if you use a fucking sound coming from your TV. Sure my new kick ass comp makes no noise, but my last did,and i just used sound to my pc games and voila it was gone, but some retards are to dumb to get that. ABout the powerbrick. I could care less, its big and look dumb yes,but who gives a fuck? VBetter to be 100% safe of no problems then not.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs! What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Oh no,not that guy,now we gonna have to hear,WELL I OWN A 360 AND I THINK BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA BLA. Yes,by owning a console you lose the fanboy stamp? Just stfu. Of course you will hear stuff like that because I obviously spent hundreds of dollars just to be able to hate the 360 even more. Yes, of course... psycho Thye noise? you cant hear it if you use a fucking sound coming from your TV. Sure my new kick ass comp makes no noise, but my last did,and i just used sound to my pc games and voila it was gone, but some retards are to dumb to get that. The noise isn' t much of a problem if I use headphones which I do when I use it myself. But if you' re having friends over or something and you don' t want to keep the volume really, really high then the sound is annoying. At day time there' s no problem but at the later hours you might want to keep the sound down. The PS3 is not noisy, my PC isn' t noisy, so why the 360? No matter how much you like the 360 you can' t escape the fact that the 360 is very noisy. ABout the powerbrick. I could care less, its big and look dumb yes,but who gives a fuck? I don' t care much about the powerbrick either. It' s just so fun to mention it because it really deserves attention when it' s that big

Really High? what are you talking about? Mayby there is something wrong with your 360,call the support now. COpying sony fanboy qutoes is one thing, but if you actually have to put the volume really high, something is really wrong,i always have low volume on,so i can chat with my pep,you dig santiago?
