PS3 shooting victim is unemployed eBay profiteer
-
Dec 20, 2006 06:31
A few weeks ago, gamers across the country were shocked at the devotion of a Connecticut man who was shot and hospitalized during his wait for the PS3. Such a man must be extremely devoted to video games to risk his life for the latest next-gen system, right? Wrong. A follow-up article by the Worcester Telegram & Gazette reveals that 21-year-old Michael Penkala was waiting " not because he' s a fan of the popular game system but because he saw a business opportunity." The unemployed Penkala, whose " only means of income at the moment is selling T-shirts, Beanie Babies and New England Patriots plush toys on his front lawn," was carrying $2,600 in cash to purchase four PS3s to resell on eBay (with the help of three friends waiting in line). What' s more, after being shot by the fleeing would-be robbers, Penkala' s first instinct was to make sure his friends got the money to purchase the systems. " For some reason I wasn' t thinking about my wound, I was all about those PlayStations," Penkala is quoted as saying. The eBay proceeds from the four PS3s Penkala eventually picked up likely won' t cover the hundreds of thousands of dollars in health care costs for the uninsured Penkala. Despite this, Penkala rejected the idea of pimping out his auctions as " the system he got shot for." *chuckle* ...there is a god after all...

Laughing an an unemployed person who wants to make $400 by standing in a line for a day is really quite low. The End.

I agree. It' s actually sad since society is much harsher than before. Excluding a lot of people from having normal lives by keeping them unemployed. And it' s not always because they' re not qualified. Pure luck and/or ass kissing is also involved in many cases. So I really don' t blame less fortunate people trying to get some money this way.

Is anybody else slightly perturbed by the fact that Bishonen is using ]GaNgsTa[' s avatar? It made me crack up in the work place though.

ERm, this is outragous.. Laugh at a Rapist, pedo getting shot maybe.. But laughing at someone who rightly wants to make abit of cash by pre-ordering, queing up in line for an age, creating a Ebay A/C, sorting out all the costs, sorting out all the delivery adresses, preparing packaging, waitng inline at a packed Post office to send them on to the buyers (that obviously didnt want to go through all the hassle of queing etc themselfs, and obviously dont mind paying extra for a PS3) That guy rightly deserves to make himself abit of cash.. If that guy deserved to get shot, what the hell did the Gunman (men) deserve?

ORIGINAL: Tiz It made me crack up in the work place though. Just in case anyone misinterprets, I was laughing at Bish.. Regarding the story, I don' t think the guy deserved to get shot at all. He was making money, and then he was going to profit from desperate people on Ebay. *Zelda Rulezzzz*

So I really don' t blame less fortunate people trying to get some money this way. ..that' s not too dissimilar to what any mugger or burglar might say... ....plus, when you think about it, paying $9,000 for a PS3 IS robbery.... ...but yea, eBay profiteers still have the right to take advantage of other peoples desperation i guess... ....just like Lawyers, Credit Agencies and Landlords...

And there is nothing wrong with selling stuff at jacked up prices, 90% of what you own from shoes to computer chips, you payed 2-10x more than what it costs to make. And most of your clothes is made by 8 year old slave labor boys in asia or latin america, so stfu.

So 2 questions spring to mind about this. 1 Where did an unemployed person get the $2600 surely there isn' t that bigger business in selling tee-shirts is there? If he is selling tee-shirts then strictly speaking he is employed is he not? 2 Has this been proven to be a coincidence shooting or maybe there is something else involved in this? Please note I am not condoning the actions

Asia and Latin america make close? when did that happen? When Nike realized they can make 20 pair of Dunks in an hour and pay a chinese kid 25Cents per hour to make that then charge $90+ depending on what pair.
