VF5 US release date: Feb 20th 2007 - Dec 19, 2006 04:57
God i hope it makes the EU launch. If the console is delayed until later in the year i' ll be forced to import.

Premiere Fighting Game Franchise Debuting on the PLAYSTATION®3 System in North America and Europe in 2007

SAN FRANCISCO & LONDON (Dec. 18, 2006) – Let the global countdown begin! SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced the ship date of Virtua Fighter™ 5 will be February 20, 2007 in North America for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Complementing the early 2007 release date in North America of the highly anticipated fighting game, SEGA Europe Ltd. has confirmed that Virtua Fighter 5 will be an official launch title for the PLAYSTATION 3 system in Europe in early 2007.

“SEGA is once again blazing the trail for fighting games with the next installment in the award-winning Virtua Fighter series,” said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President Marketing SEGA of America. “Virtua Fighter 5 will be the first martial arts style fighting game available on the PLAYSTATION 3 system with brand new offensive moves, customizable characters, stunning graphics and highly detailed 3D fighting environments.”

Virtua Fighter 5 will deliver fast-paced, adrenaline-pumping action as players head into battle, taking on a host of popular characters. The game will introduce two new dynamic characters, El Blaze and Eileen, complete with new fighting techniques and from completely different backgrounds. Play as one of the 17 default characters in the game or customize a character. Players will be able to modify their characters by selecting from four base costumes and then decorate them by attaching a wide range of unlockable and earnable items. Players will not only achieve victory by defeating highly-skilled opponents, but also by competing for prizes and earning in-game money allowing them to buy many items at an in-game shop. Further building upon the depth of the series, players will now be able to move around their opponent using an “Offensive Move” technique, adding a new strategic element to their battles.

Feb/20th??? thats just too soon, how many PlayStation 3 are supposed to be worldwide by that time??? 2 million??? 3 a the the most??? thats a low number, SEGA should delay the launch of the game until late March so they can get some heavy profit, i dont know if SONY will be able to ship 6 million by the end of March but Heavenly Sword and MotorStorm should boost PS3 sales, so SEGA should take advantage of that and release after those games.

Virtua Fighter sure looks amazing, and i bet it plays even better, cant whait to get my hands on it, the Europe PS3 launch its gonna kick ass, Resistance, Round 3, Virtua fighter, Heavenly Sword(?), MotorStorm. F1, Oblivion, Armored Core, thats awesome

If Sony can sort their supply problems out [i know they have said it' s already sorted] then March will be a big month for them. They' ll be looking to have a fresh wave for the US and enough units for a successful EU launch. If Heavenly Sword turns up along with Ninja Gaiden Sigma then the PS3 EU launch could just be the best of any console yet.

Exactly! What the f*ck are you doing?

If I were to have this, NGS and Heavenly Sword it would be a better Eu launch than any other console I have played period!

*Thinks about meandering from Heavenly Sword to Ninja Gaiden Sigma*

AAAAAAAAAAAOOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Heavenly Sword and MotorStorm should boost PS3 sales

Nothing is going to ' boost' PS3 sales, that is simply not possible. Every unit for the next few months will sell out regardless of what games are available.
I dont want to celebrate, I want to sell you hate.

Yes, they are almost like watching VF5 in the flesh!!

Easily the best looking game to date!

No one can argue with me after seeing them videos.

The game is super smooth, super super gorgeous..

If only the rest SEGA could follow AM2, SEGA would be a force to be rekkoned with again.

You mean to say that Quake 4 running on your HD projector doesn' t look better tha that?!

VF5 looks fantastic and it has some of the best texture work i' ve ever seen, this level especially...

...and some of the best character models yet. The different cloth textures are notably impressive. The game look amazing. It' s not technically brilliant but it looks gorgeous.

Fighting games always look great [well, unless it' s Mortal Kombat], and VF is never the prettiest for long. Tekken will be nicer as NAMCO are graphical geniuses and then Dead or Alive 5 will come along and crush everything that went before. Hopefully by then we' ll have Virtua Fighter 6 as Team Ninja have Ninja Gaiden 2 and Code Chronus to do before DoA5.

I think VF5 has to be seen in motion to truly be able to appreciate how good it looks. f3, you didn' t get to play it on your last visit to Japan by chance did you? If so, how does it compare to final tuned from a gameplay perspective?

You see how super smooth that runns? well thats how most of most PCgames, run, and it does make a massive impact on first lookers.. Especially on game such as HL2 that look good anyway.

Im a fussy bastard and want to see every game running as nice as VF5, or my pc games..

Anyway...

All depends in what department.. I cant really see anything bettering VF5' s animation for a long time, (probably until VF6) simply due to the fact VF has always had more much attention to detail in the actual moves, Like hi, mid, low Limb bounces, staggers ETC.. Then you have the effects where only AM2 seem to get right like, puddles, snow.. ETC.

not sure tho.. I feel both Tekken and especially DOA have got to improve on so many different areas first.

Anyway.

.

More or less, ive got Dozens of supposidly HD, 60fps Vids of VF5 and None really did the graphics and motions justice. Those playside vids are by far the best ive seen and almost capture seeing it in the flesh.

IVe got to see it for a good hour, but actually never played it.. Ques were too big...

VF being VF, it was too early (3 months ago) for people to make their judgement.. so i honestly couldnt say.

IF you can read Kanji this is a very good read about Vf5, Lindbergh, PS3 production, hardware rendering etc.

here

A few interesting bits:

- HDR precision is FP16 with tone mapping
- Graphic' s API is now OpenGL
- Lindbergh actually perfroms faster than PS3 for pixel fillrate
- VF5 has roughly 3 time' s the poly count of VF4
- Shadow map resolution is 1,024 1,024

Id have to agree, VF tops Tekken and DOA in animation by a considerable amount. Personally, I think Team Ninja should just focus on NG games anyway.

Ah y' see now that' s better. I can' t possibly disagree with anything in that post!

Half Life 2 i have agreed looks amazing, and in some areas it looks unbelievable. Episode 1 and Lost Coast especially. On my machine Lost Coast looks like this...

..which is everything but the resolution maxed out and running at 90-odd fps. I can' t take the resolution higher because my display is limited to 1440 x 900. But Quake 4 and Prey, while they look ok are nowhere near at attractive on the surface. Half Life 2, and every other games problems come when you get close to an object. It' s not so bad from a couple of virtual feet away but get closer and things aren' t so pretty. The other thing is the mapping. Half Life 2 is nicer than most other PC games but walls ae still angular.

The thing about Gears of War is that in both 720p and 1080p everything from the mapping to the texture resolution is far nicer than in any other game. It' s technically brilliant and i can' t wait to see UT2007 running side-by-side on both my PS3 and my PC. Gears through component doesn' t actually look as sharp as Gears through VGA, the problem with VGA is that everything then looks washed out and the color pallete in the game isn' t... well, we' re not talking about a rainbow here. Through VGA with the scheme set to vibrant and the contrast and color pumped up on my TV Gears looks better than anything.. It doesn' t run at 60fps but in some games it' s not that important.

Ok, when it comes to animation then you' re right. Tekken and Dead or Alive had never had fantastic animations, Virtua Fighter simply can' t be matched there. I think that everything else [apart from things like water effects] will be matched and probably bettered by NAMCO and Tekken 6. NAMCO have a knack for making gorgeous games and even Tekken 5 running in 1080p looks stunning. Team Ninja will better oth though when it comes to surface visuals. Unfortunately that won' t be for quite a while yet, ...luckily we get Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Ninja Gaiden 2 beforehand!

BlimBlim encodes using the best codecs. It makes his filesizes larger than most but they' re the best quality and always 60fps. The impressive thing is that those aren' t even direct feed, they' re an amazing cam. He has more HERE

Anyway, stop calling me a damn fanboy. I' m not and you know it. I just happen to own Microsoft' s console and i' m not blind. I missed out on a Wii at launch as i' m going to Canada in less than 24hrs but will be getting on in Jan, and i tried buying a PS3 over the net months ago, missed out and will have to get one at the EU launch unless i happen accross one in the Rockies. Calling me a fanboy gets on my nerves, especially if you' re associating me with Microsoft or Sony but meh, it' s all over and done with now. VF5 is just 12 weeks away!

Yeah, give Namco an extra year-and-a-half to two years, and they can whip Sega every time! Namco always waits around for Sega to raise the bar, then they respond. They' ve never demonstrated the initiative to be a true innovator. Well, at least not since Pac-Man.
