Impressive physics demo - Dec 17, 2006 20:52
Could this be used in Fable 2??

Has everybody else seen this?? I mean it is quite old, but rather impressive.

Isn' t Fable 2 using Havok?! I dunno, i' m not bothered about Fable 2 yet. Fable sucked first time around.

I know he wants to make the combat more physical though and there' s a Fable 2 combat demo HERE where you can see + hear what he' s getting at. The alpha game has shit textures though...

Meh, just wait for Indiana Jones, that' s gonna kick ass!

Perhaps somebody should PM f2 about this thread so he can come masturbate over the next-gen physics or something. Wouldn' t want him to miss out...

That was amazing...I do hope they use it for Fable 2.

I wouldnt say it sucked, I would just say it always seemed to fall short of what could have been (and what most of us felt should have been).

Fable 2 is using Havok: Link

This is impressive stuff but probably a little too experimental at the moment. For Ultra realistic stuff like that (grains of wood, individual book pages, etc), I' m not sure whether the 360 or PS3 would be able to utilize it properly. Given the scalability of PC' s, it' ll probably wind up there before it' s seen on a console.

Havok is nothing new, and if it can be done on a current PC it can be done on 360/PS3

I wasn' t talking about Havok. I was talking about the technology in the demo.

They probably will seeing as it was built with the 360 in mind, so I dont see a reason why it wouldnt work great on the 360 and since we' re talking physics here it should most definately be possible on the PS3 as well.

I don' t think it was built with specifically the 360 in mind. Lionhead studios make games for PC too. Molyneaux is a dreamer and is always trying to push game development in new directions regardless of PC/360.

The presentation wasn' t just about physics though. It was all about creating a super realistic environment that encompasses highly detailed graphics, physics and environmental attributes (time degradation of objects) and making it all work as a unified system. So while it was impressive, the " Room" was still just a small static environment. Despite all of the hype and bullshit surrounding Cell/PS3/360, I don' t think they' d be able to handle that system running in the background and still run a game on top of that too. Clock for clock most PC processors on the market today are superior to them in more ways than one (more instructions per clock, better instruction sets, etc) and are continually improving.

It all seemed very experimental to me and I don' t think we' ll see it appearing on console games anytime soon. Perhaps the next iteration of 360. This of course is just my opinion and I' m only going by what seems logical.

Perhaps, but my interpretation is that it was built with Fable 2 in mind, which is coming to the 360. Also, dont discount the fact that the 360 architecture is easily adapted to PC and vice versa.
