Life is Beautiful - foreign film (1997)
-
Jul 06, 2004 19:36
I watched this movie last night. It was excellent. It' s a tragic comedy. It uses English sub-titles. Basically, its about a Jewish-Italian guy (Roberto Benigni) who is sent to a Nazi concentration camp during WWII, along with his wife and young son. He tries to protect his son' s innocence by pretending that their imprisonment is a game, with the grand prize being a tank. I laughed and I cried. Definitely recommend seeing this movie if you haven' t already.

I remember this movie being pretty good. It really is bittersweet.

The main actor was rated as one of the worst Oscar winners ever. I never liked the movie because...well, it' s a freaking COMEDY! set in a concentration camp. Schindler' s List is a much better movie.

Schindler' s List was excellent. The scenes about the little girl with the red coat gave me nightmares that' s how much they bothered me.

I didn' t find the movie to be a comedy at all. There were moments of levity, but it suited the movie. Then again, I am a sucker for this type of movie. Schindler' s list was amazing. The book is even better.

I' ve never seen Schindler' s List. I know, one of THE best movies of the 90s ... Lol. I did enjoy Life is Beautiful though .. and it wasn' t really comedy. The comic part was way too sad, because of the lengths the father goes to hide his son from the truth. =\.

Well all I can say is that by comparison Schindler' s List blows Life is Beautiful out of the water. Schindler' s List is the truth, and to me that was the most touching thing about the movie. The truth of what Jews had to go through...the truth of the horrible acts against them...the truth...

I agree Yoshimitsu. What I found with Schindler' s list was that it humanized a lot of factions, specifically some Germans. (sorry, it is late and I may not make sense) I found that characters like Oscar Schindler were not necessarily " good" but they were human, they weren' t just Nazi monsters. If you enjoyed the movie, read the book, it is even more powerful,. I jsut realized we have hijacked Sharon' s thread.
