Xbox 360 100GB HDD announced! - Oct 19, 2006 23:07
60GB? Fuck that shit, we get 100GB!

LINK

The 100GB HDD and the 256MB memory unit were part of a rumour months ago that also included a Black model of the console.

The 256MB memory unit, as i claimed a while back will have a direct effect on the maxiumum size of XBLA titles which are currently limited to 50MB. When the size goes up to 512MB next year we' ll see titles like Quake 3 arriving...

Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Cant you just do what you did to get you account from the origional Xbox? Just a quick recover or somthing?

Im only concerned with the price. $99.99 for 20 gigs...

5 times the amount I know doesnt directly mean 5 times the cost as the higher the gigs the less it is per gig...but Im still sure its gonna be up there isnt it?

Can' t they just release an update and increase the size of our HDD' s?

They can do it for 1080p, so they might as well do it for the HD...

What do you guys think about price? Myself, I' m thinking around $250. I' m sure they wouldn' t directly correlate to the normal one' s price/memory ratio, that would get ridiculous, and not to mention, we don' t know how much of the production cost was the actual memory itself, so there' s something to think about.

Yeah, I think that' s Korean, but here' s something interesting, I can see the Western letters & numbers for the memory unit, HD-DVD, 360, 100gig HD, force feedback (controller) and the vision camera, but what' s that fourth one? The only western characters are PC.

VX, I don' t think your account is HD-tied as I moved mine from my memory card on to the HD when I got it (stupid core system!)

However, I wasn' t on xbox live before I got the HD.

Transferring save games should be no problem with a memory card, however arcade titles and demos is another matter!

I can' t read Korean, but I' ll take this info with a grain of salt. For some reason the fact that the memory unit has the words " 256 MB" superimposed over a 64 MB memory unit makes me uneasy.

I' ll believe it when I see it in stores, or hear official word from M$.

true, but if they did that, then they will have to lower the premium 360 or people will just buy the core and then buy the HD seperate

They could make the premiums HD bigger though....

Your account is on whatever storage you' ve got attached to the 360 if I' m not mistaken. I' m sure Microsoft has taken this into account, so I don' t think it' s anything to worry about.

Of course you can' t! That would be customer service..

Then again, the save files are hardly taxing on the HD, maybe they give you a free
64B memory card to transfer the save data???

Well, I already have one, so if I felt like buying the 100GB HardDrive, I would, and
could, and still maintain my save files on the 100GB..

My mate at work has one of those usb converters for the 360 which sits between the drive and the console itself, and he has backed up all his data and pushed it a new drive no problems at all, no idea about transfer rate tho...

Like Musashi said, there are converters/SATA adapters out there that allow you to backup your X360 HDD and mirror the data onto another drive.

Ah yes, true. Now that I remember, when my cousin' s 360 died and he got a new one, (he kept his HDD) his XBLA games would only turn into the full version if he went online. Otherwise, they' d be trials even though he paid for them.

LOL

X360 = $300
HD-DVD = $200
100GB HDD = $200
Wireless Adaptor = $100

Total = $800

And people say PS3 is a bad deal.

What I actually want in my game system:

Total $400

The saddest thing is that even though getting all of what PS3 offers on 360 costs more, you can also never come close to PS3' s greatness because they wont make HD-DVD games, the drive is just there for watching movies - LMAO.

everything ps3 offers is crap i dont need.

X360 = $300
HD-DVD = $200
100GB HDD = $200
Wireless Adaptor = $100

Total = $800

actually, its a matter of what people want.

if someone just wanted the 360 they could get it for $400, or if they wanted the extra 80 GB it would be $500 and the HD-DVD and Wireless Adaptor are both things you can live without.

so the total for the average person with common sense in buying a console would come to a total of $500. Sure its the same price as a ps3' s lower model, but you get a 100 GB HD, which is more than you get with the $600 model.

Yep, Sony is just forcing consumers to purchase stuff they might not even use. At least Microsoft let' s you decide.

PS3 isn' t forcing anything, next gen needs a new high-capacity format, it' s a natural transition like DVD was to CDs.

Wireless adaptors are necessary as well, I just bought one the other day for my X360. It' s not pretty having a cluster-fuck of cables accross the walls and floor to run your internet to all your consoles and PCs.

This isn' t anything that they are FORCING me to get, I want this stuff.

Now let' s look at Microsoft, THEY are the ones that force you to pay for things you shouldn' t have to pay for. Take XBL, most of us like to play online, in 2006 online play is a basic feature of videogaming, but we have to pay $50 a year for it - it' s a fucking rip off.

Actually, my calculations were wrong. Here are the correct #s

Xbox360 = $300
100GB HDD = $200
HD-DVD Drive = $200
Wireless Adaptor = $100
XBL for 5 years (if the console is even supported that long) = $250.

Total for X360 to get close to matching the PS3 experience = $1050.00
PS3 = $600

And I repeat, even though you' re paying $450 more, you are still stuck with DVD games because they wont make HD-DVD games, so in the end you pay more for much, much, much, less. Only a blind fanboy would disagree with this.

Sony is practically putting $450 in your pocket.

It' s like if you were being offered a stripped down Honda Civic, or a fully equipped Ferrari for only a 30% price difference, would you refuse the ferrari because you just dont need that type of car? I don' t think so. Yeah I dont need that type of car, but if they want to put tens of thousands of $$$$ in my pocket, I am not going to stop them - I' m not a fucking retard.

Thank you for that very enlightening read, Evil Man...

I think you are missing a very important point: We are not all interested in purchasing the PS3, despite the fact that it is a " better" deal...

Ultimately it comes down to a matter of opinion and preference...I personally prefer the modular system utilized by the XBOX 360. I don' t foresee a need for the HD-DVD drive anytime within the next year...as for the wireless network adapter...I have wired my entire home and I obviously don' t have a need for it. As for XBL, I consider it to be a worthwhile investment...I play on a regular basis and I believe that paying for the service ensures reliable customer service, support and an overall high quality service.

Plus, as a counterpoint to the one you have made about next gen consoles requiring a new high-capacity...Games today that look great and play in Hi-Definition @ resolutions up to 1080i do not even require the 9GB available on a standard dual-layer DVD...so by having that new high-capacity drive really has little bearing on the quality of games...at this point the only allure of getting the HD-DVD(in the case of the 360) or the Blu-Ray drive(in the case of PS3) is for HD movies which are not readily available at this point and not likely to be for at least 6 months...

To conclude,
I respect your point of view, but not all of us share it...I certainly don' t!

If you do your setup probably, you wont need wireless at all like Fishguy said (grats on the greatest first post ever................ i think) Though ofcourse if your lazy and not bothering with the cables and want a lesser way of connecting your hardware to the internet thats your deal.

This is how a setup should look (dont take notice to the wires on the right side from my hold xbox which is currently sitting in my bedroom)

Maybe you do get wireless, you do get free online play, which may be utter crap because sony has no expirience at all with it. Maybe you got a blu ray player, which may or may not turn out to be a good bet, it sure as hell isnt needed for games yet unless you stuff em full of not needed CGI.

But what you dont get, is the console that can push the prettiest graphics with the newest technoledgy, which in that case makes the PS3 nill and void untill they can come up with a game thats actualy worth 550$ in itself!

remaining is a tired powerbrick and a PS2...

Well, the PS2 is coming with me too!

Can you take a picture of that set up with DOA4 running please?

I.e still true? hmmmn-link

I' ve seen another slide which shows the 100gb text clearly visible behind the Korean chaps backside.

The plot thickens, although I dont doubt it' s comming. Really depends on the rest of their cost reduction processes.
