Splinter Cell: Double Agent reviewed by IGN - Oct 17, 2006 19:19

9.0 Presentation

High production values create a thick, heavy atmosphere and a rich in-depth storyline. Yes, a real storyline. Excellent interface, objective pages and menus.

9.0 Graphics

This gorgeous game is layered with multiple textures, special effects, and slick animations. It delivers 30 FPS with occasional drops in both single and multiplayer modes.

9.5 Sound

Excellent sound effects coincide with the dynamic soundtrack. There is surprisingly worthwhile dialog.

9.0 Gameplay

Sharper AI and more NPCs help to create a tighter stealth game. A wide variety of levels plus branching storylines equal great Splinter Cell.

9.0 Lasting Appeal

The single-player game is about 8-10 hours; but you' ll want to play it again. The 3-on-3 MP mode is more accessible than Chaos Theory' s co-op mode and is progressively more fun.

9.0 Outstanding OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

Cheers.

I might get Double Agent for my poor old Cube. It has been a long time since I got a game for it.

It' ll be interesting to compare it to other reviews, & see how it matches up. Ofc, it' ll be more interesting to actually have it in my hands, but untill that time.

Do you not have a 360? I wouldn' t spend real money on a meh Double Agent port. I' m just going by the fact that all the other ports have played like garbage compared to the original.

I just want something to use on my new 7.1 audio system, since I sold all my 360 games and have like 3 PS2 games with crappy audio, and I' ve had $80 in credit at gamestop for like a month.

Off topic, but is there any huge difference in sound quality between 5.1 and 7.1? I know certain things, (stuff coming from the rear) sound better in 6.1 & 7.1, but I want to know if it' s a big enough jump to warrant the extra cash.

You will be playing upconverted 5.1 audio (converted to 7.1), which sounds alot better than regular 5.1 audio, atleast until 7.1 movies/games start coming out, I dont know of anything that can do real 7.1 except for bluray which I don' t have.

I' ve tested it by turning off the middle speakers which makes my reciever go to 5.1 mode, then turning them back on which sets it to 7.1 and it deffinetely sounds much better in 7.1, but again its not real 7.1 audio so I imagine if you have a 7.1 source it will sound much better.

Alright, thanks. I' m not sure when I' ll be able to buy a good sound system, but when I do, I' ll probably go the extra mile for 7.1

The main difference is that there' s not such a big gap between front to back transitions, with 5.1 sound feels rectangular (atleast in a large room), with 7.1 its like a circle of sound coming at you from every direction.

nice score.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

My roomate bought it and I jacked it from him. I' m already 5 levels into the game. It' s freaking awesome! The tension is so f*cking high! I' m not going to give out any spoilers but damn... this game is already making me question my every move. I LOVE SPLINTER CELL!!!!!

Btw, I have a friend at EB that said he' d help me get the game for free. He' s not going to steal it but just swap it out for another game. Hopefully I' ll have my own copy by the weekend!

Arh! I' ve been desperate for a new splinter Cell game for so long, in actual fact I am going to hunt the stores now, with my mums credit card and see if I can pick
it up!

The Exploding Camera will become my favourite weapon..

Anyone up for Tight suit spies vs. Muscley Mercs when the game comes out???

For some reason, i don' t believe in pre-orders anymore.

I love to go to the store and buy the game!! Woow, it' s so fun!! This is probably my first real anticipated 360 title that I am about to get my hands on.... Next is
Sonic The Hedgehog.....

I love the blue guy!!

the storyline is excelent, IMO, its not exagerated like most other games are, its something that could really happen in the real world, kinda like the R6 games!

Doubtful. I' d guess that they had assets left over from GRAW that never got used and figured it was a good way to start the game off as if you' ve played GRAW already you' ll instantly feel comfortable.

Lookise...

With a game like Splinter cell the story is not important , so i dont think you should be put off buying it.

The story is your standard take down terrorist group with no real interesting characters apart from Sam Fisher.
