Blink and you' ll miss it, M$ untouchable?

Well, they are untouchable for now, as it seems our boys over at the corporate giant have a few dirty under-handed marketing tricks up their sleeve. On my way to work I saw what looked significantly like a " Launch" queue... Being the inquisitive individual I propose myself to be, I had a gander as it might have been the Wii launching early... Well, it was more of a surprise than that actually. The queue stretched considerably far down London' s legendary shopping district - Oxford Street. After seeing X06, I couldn' t help but wonder. This the deal, and also the explanation as to why there were so many people in the queue, for today and today only M$ (or probably Virgin Megastores) are selling the X-box 360 Premium Console Pack for.... £100.00 ...However, it' s only for today, and the deal only applies to Virgin Megastores in London according to the rather large security guard that had the queue bolted down with his entire left forearm. The Oxford Street store was the only place I visited as it' s on my way to work, but there are other Virgin Megastores plotted all over London, I can' t even imagine what the queues are like as the one in Oxford Street was pretty long. With M$ delivering quite an astounding showing at X06 followed by consumers purchasing a 360 for £100.00 a day after, it seems the Redmond Giant (hehe) sits on cloud 9, and the 360 will see a significant sales boost (even if it is just in London). So what do you guys make of this? Or am I assuming M$ had too much to do with it and it' s likely all down to Virgin Megastores just trying to get rid of stock before the Nintendo Wii hits launch? Either way, with everything that has been announced for 360, it' s a damn good time to be a 360 owner.

Virgin are making a huge push nationwide to make up ground lost to HMV, but this is more than likely a deal in conjunction with Microsoft rather than Virgin just slashing the price on their own. A £170 ($319) pricecut is quite something though. It' s not even like the console is doing badly here, ...quite to opposite in fact. 360' s adoption rate in the UK has been far faster than in the rest of Europe. I wonder whether they' re having similar promotions in other countries, say Barceleona, Spain...

Well, I am not surprised as HMV has the far better rewards scheme when it comes to games. That' s how I will be getting my lovely *cheap* PS3! I' m going to check after work to see if I can pick any up, (might pick up 3 or 4 if I can) and then sell em' on Ebay. That, or I may just make a nice little system link gaming HUB in my house.. Actually I' ll probably just sell them, but I think they have sold out. The people in the queue were so excited, it was quite funny, it' s like Launch day was today for them.
