The Gears of War Thread (Update: More Video Glory) - Sep 27, 2006 02:39
Well you are allowed to just drool in this thread, or you can post newz and pics.

This just in! GoW will work probably on your SDTV and will not feature a janitor named Otis

Yes a Gears of War thread!!!

Ever since hearing about online co-op I have been salivating over this game.

Is that co-op campaign mode? Or is it co-op set missions like GRAW which I
didn' t like as I thought GRAW had co-op missions as in 3 other people could join
in and play as the other Ghosts...

But NoooOOOOoOOOo...

This will make you droooollllllll

Its co-op campaign mode, and as far as i know, if your playing GoW and a friend comes by, he just plugs in the second controller and wupti, he is controlling your ally

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT............

>_>

<_<

*_*

Is it co-op over X-box Live?

With all due respect, I would find no joy with my family playing with me on
co-op because they' ll probably suck...

Please confirm... and are there vehicles? Either they have eluded my inquisitive
" screenshot" eyes, or they are non-existent, or Epic have kept it so under
wraps that no-one has seen one...

If it' s 4 player co-op over Live as in the Marcus Phoenix campaign with 4
of your friends from your friends list, then Gears is the best game to ever
grace mankind...

If not.. then I will kick Cliffy' s Balls..

I like their VSYNC solution. It should be great for 360 as some games have noticable tearing.

I heard it was four. Was it taken out? Oh well. I do know co-op works split screen, LAN, and over Xbox Live. However it works out, I' m happy there is co-op.

I am probaby the only 360 owner who doesn' t have the slightest bit of intrest in this game. I guess it cannot be heelped, with me, as there are two other incomming FPS games that has me A LOT more interested, than this and a lot of upcomming NON-FPS games for the 360.

Now go ahead and hang me for this immoral sin.

Edit:

Just remembered, this isn' t a FPS, so ignore that bit for me and think of it as Shooter... I meant shooter.

During parts of the main campaign, Marcus and Dom are alone. As far as i know it' s just 2 player co-op (split-screen, system link and over Live)...

I' m not overwhealmed by GOW either, I' ll probably get it but I' m more interested COD3 and BF 2142.

COD3? well i played COD2, thats enough WWII for me this generation and Quake Wars looks to absolutely slaughter BF 2142 in coolness. Now that is one game im looking forward to getting my hands on! an official 360 announcement would be sweet.

Quake Wars is going to be awsome but it was pushed back, expect it in 2007. They decided tothrow more money and time so the game kicks more ass.

I saw a level design video for a multiplayer map on Gears of War, when I find
it again, I will upload it.

Is there a jump button in Gears of War? Or is everything pretty much grounded?

No jump per say, ...' A' is context sensitive, so it' s used to jump over things, to sprint, and to dive [evasively].

Leaning [out of cover - a la GRAW) is done by moving the stick in whatever direction you' re popping out and using the left trigger to aim [a la GRAW].

Weapons are mapped to the d-pad, and you can only carry 4 at a time. Most have their own melee attacks which are performed by pressing ' B' . Note that the cainsaw bayonet will NOT be the most satisfying melee attack in the game, that' ll be reserved for the good ol' grenade in the mouth = exploding face attack.

Reloading is initialized by the right bumber button but you have to time the second press right to reload your gun faster and get a damage boost. F*cking it up will result in either talking longer to reload than normal or a jam.

Multi-player will be at X06 so we should be getting some new impressions in the next day or so. I' m interested to see what modes made it into the game other than CS-like team play.

RE: The Gears of War Thread (update on multiplayer) - Sep 28, 2006 00:30

Multiplayer Modes:
Warzone: 4v4 Elimination
Assassination: Your team needs to kill the opposing team' s leader
Execution: You must perform an execution mode to finish off your opponent A few other tidbits
Other:
Ranking is by points, not kills. You do get points for each kill, but you also get scored for executions, reviving teammates, melee hits, chain saw kills, head shots with the sniper rifle, doing any type of damage, or grenade-tagging someone.
Each of the eight multiplayer maps has a certain theme to it (Mansion: destructible cover with the ratty old couches; Gas Station: explosive sections of the level; and so on). Train Station' s gimmick is a speedy locomotive that barrels down the middle of the stage every minute or so, killing everything in its path.
When a teamate dies they enter a " bleeding out" phase where they can be revived unless the timer runs out or they are " executed" . This is for SP and MP
Single-player achievements can be earned in co-op:
The Nuge: Kill enough people with Torque bow
Cluster Luck: Simultaneous grenade kills
Is it a Spider?: Grenade tagging
100,000 online kills
Collecting dog tags scattered around campaign

What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.
