Help! Classics on HD.

I bought a 40 inch Samsung HDTV, recently, which makes HD games look great, but the rest like pixelorama. Though I was prepared for this, I found it more anoying than expected. So I wonder if any of you know of some trix to help fix this problem... like reducing the TV' s resolution or something... something?

I dont think a magic device that makes old games look great exists yet! the reason the games look bad is because your tv shows the low resolution on such a big screen, the only thing to do about is if you coulld get your tv to play them in a " window"

I believe there is something that can help.Try buying an upscaler (I do not know if this is its English " name" )

Upscalers dont work well for games.

There' s nothing you can do except play on a normal TV or EDTV.

Can' t you shrink the picture on those big TV' s? You can do that with most PC monitors (although not by much) so playing in a small window as Vx said should be possible. If not, they should make it possible in future TV' s.

That' s simply the nature of flat pannel technology, and the same results are seen on small screen sizes too.

Ultimately you can use or buy a SDTV or EDTV crt (240p/480i and 480i/480p) or invest in the extremely expensive scallers (pointless considering costs) which make the image look softer than when being displayed natively, but mostly without all the side effects of poor image processing.

Maybe a Sony Fine Pitch HD CRT would have been a better option for HD gaming, as at least 480p is displayed perfectly. Some HD sets also do 480i native also.

You can play the games on a small window, on my TV theres a 1:1 mode which displays a low resolution image without blowing it up to fill the whole screen, but it' s shitty to play on a little cropped window in the middle of your TV.

You just say " HD" games and " classics" , but I don' t know exactly which systems you' re referring to. For anything pre-PS2/DC, I' d play on a regular 4:3 analog TV (CRT). Those support 240p natively which is what 90% of the games in that era were. 480i (PS2/DC and up) should look fine on an HDTV. It will look even better if you buy component cables as some games on the PS2 support 480p as do most GC and Xbox games.

You' d seriously think that there would be a simple solution for such a silly problem, by now, BUT NOOÓOO!!!


I guess I' ll just have to by a smallar (32 inch-ish), non HD, plasma television, to stand next to the Samsung. I' m not really happy with the thought, but unless someone comes with a good solution to this problem, soon, this is what I' ll do.... *sigh* So sad, so sad...

CRTs work best for the older stuff.
