No DVD movies for Wii

It makes sense, all the competetors have a drive, and if you don' t have a DVD player... well...

This thread is very missleading,there is a dvd player in the wii,it just only play games.

And that means 7.5 more GB of storage then in previous console.

And to people talking about lack of space,RE4 took less then 1.5 gb of space.

And still was one of the most graphical intense game this generation.

Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

But really, I thought the Wii would make a good dvd player as it is small and quiet, the wiimote is a remote. If the system can read dvd games, surely Its only a matter of the correct software/codecs to enable dvd playback.

Nintendo has explained that the lack of DVD movie playback is because they want to keep costs down as much as possible. And I doubt DVD playback would be a strong selling point now that everyone has DVD.
Nintendo themselves said that the Wii " will not play Hollywood DVD movies" which I guess is the best way to say it.

ANd tbh i wont use my Wii as a movieplayer.
If it could,i doubt it would be a " great movieplayer" anyway.

I have DVD player in my room which i rarely use,so i think this is not a loss.
Wii is a video game console,not a Multimedia player.
Today,some poeple are forgetting for what we use video game consoles,for PLAYING,not for watching movies or listening music!

Nintendo never said that we would be able to watch movies in the first place. They only said that they would use DVD. They said that they might release some kind of add-on in the future but the Wii was never supposed to be able to play DVD moves in the first place.

Like the xbox then.

Wii games aren' t in HD which means they take less space. So a DVD can have bigger Wii games than 360 games. So, I' ve calculated that Wii games can, and will, be 1000000 times bigger than 360 games. Every one of them. Logic!

i just forgot what SD means , how could i forget that, the only thing that take part are textures in HD vs SD are textures, and a game is much more than that, so it won' t be a major difference in size of games. However , we all now ninntendo is good in compressing stuff (resident evil 4)

It' s not going to be long before developers find ways to work the Wii to their advantage. I' m sure some games will still look like crap, because the developers are only using what' s presented to them, but then you compare their low budget failure games on CGN with stuff like RE4 and Wind Waker, and the difference is huge. I think it' s going to roll that way with the Wii.

No,but remember with ps2?
They had to duplicate all game files to make it run at a decent speed,with 360 you can compress those without lacking speed or quality.

I don' t know if Wii can do that...
