Good / Bad / Ugly : Game advertising - Sep 12, 2006 22:43
But am I the only one looking at the Ubisoft advert on the side of this forum for " FacesOfWar" but cant get the phrase " FaecesOfWar" out of my head.

For this childish diversion I have to apologise. Ahem.

Anyone got photoshop at work!?

but that is not the main reason for my posting...

In actuallity I was hoping for a structured debate about the design of games casings / merchandise today.

This advert for example, does nothing for me. Perhaps we could use examples and post them here!?

Has it come of age, does it make want to buy a game, or maybe does anyone have a huge cardboard cutout or better merchandise from working in a games store etc..?

The best videogame advertisements I know are the ones where
A. I get to see cool screens from the game
B. It has some cool art work from the game to quickly give you a sence of the gamnes atmosphere
C. Some random crazy shit that makes me go " WTF?"
The advertisement above? It stinks! I don' t get interested at all. I didn' t even bother reading what IGN says on the ad. But only now when analysing the ad I realise that it' s a RTS. That' s not good.

I remember when i read - NBA 2k6 the most wanted xbox360 game.

What a fucking lie,how dare EA say things like that?

Seriously.

It was Sega who made that ad, not EA. 2k6 was a damn good game though and one of my most anticipated launch titles. It was actually the first 360 game I bought.

Every game advert should have actual in game screenshots if in a magazine etc. While TV adverts should show in game clips of game running which is something most adverts don' t do.

I remember TV advertising back in the day, I have a massive collection of them for work uses now, probably hundreds in fact.

The thing is, back then they HAD to use in game footage, as CGI either didnt exist, or was ridiculously expensive.

I remember certain adverts resorted to using hand drawn animation, I mean why?!

NBA2k6 has nothing to do with SEGA, since the team responsible for NBA games was sold quite some time ago.

I love those funny Xbox Live commercials.

I' m pretty sure Nintendo will do something funny with their for Wii too

The Faces of War ad should only be visible to UK users. Can any US-based users see the ad?

Secondly... who remembers these ads? ;-)

Rampage, you may have liked that basketball game, but to say it was the most anticipated 360 game is a fucking lie.

I am in the US and I can see the Faces of War ad in the first post. Not sure why I wouldn' t be able to.

Adam you forgot the Saturn ad with Ice T or whatever his name is. It is a " Head for Saturn" ad, just like that one with the chick with rings on her bald head. Awful advertising!
