Not all HDMI cables can carry a 1080p signal. The vast majority of HDMI cables currently available only support the 75MHz 720p/1080i signals. They aren' t even tested at >165MHz speeds and most are catagorized (spelling?) Catagory 1 (or class 1).

If you want to play in 1080p you' ll need a Catagory 2 (class 2) capable cable supporting speeds >165MHz (up to 340MHz).

If you want a 1080p capable HDMI cable you' re going to be paying around $100 or £65 in the UK. It' s possible that they are available cheaper but they' d likely be shit cables.

The thing is, how many people will want to play in 1080p?!

I don' t think many people wil be playing in 1080p - those TV' s are way to expensive.Maybe in 2008 this will be the new trend , but for now it' s all about 720p (and that' s what PS3 games support mostly).

You can get 3000$/m cable for your speakers if you want to, so I' d say there will be even more expensive HDMI cables for PS3 , but there are cheaper ways to connect your PS3 with your TV and also through HDMI.

This gamestop thing really is pretty competitive if they' re silver plated and Cat2. I don' t think there are all that many Cat2 cables out yet though, so I wouldn' t expect really competitive prices from anyone.

You can play 360 in 1080p if you have a nice upscanning device - PS3 will mostly upscale to 1080p from 720p - so the native piscture will mostly be 720p
