Who would have thunk it.

edit: in fact it runs it faster, but the differance are very small.

It' s being used in Halo 3 too which should be cool!

What games needs you to have a physics processor? I imagine the Cell Factor game when its released! But other than that`? I think stuff like the Phys Accelerators is a bad idea, next we will have AI enhancers, and what not!

Phsyics procs suck right now. The games aren' t made well for them and the hardware is way too expensive. As of right now there aren' t any games that impress me with crazy physics using them. And you actually get lower FPS when you use the PPU.

Some day maybe it will be worth it.

The article said ALMOST as fast as a triple-core cpu.

I really don' t think the author of this article has any idea what he is talking about though. They aren' t making triple-core cpu' s for PC. They are supposed to be going straight from dual to quad-core. I guess they could be talking about the xbox 360 though.

So this gen will be all about Havok 4.0 and Ageia physics. They' re both impressive but i' d probably rather have games using Ageia physics, especially looking at the Cell Factor videos.

Is this considered a bragging statement? Isn' t the PlayStation 3 a " super" computer, so shouldn' t it be able to handle it FASTER than a triple-core?

Yeah I also haven' t heard of X-box 360' s.

It' s the only explanation... Ok, I' m off to rehab..

Thats what I thought...isn' t the ps3 meant to surpass the 360 based on it' s structure...kinda like hd-dvd and blu-ray surpassing current dvd?.

I dont know how this works, but this takes 2 of the 7[or is it 8] spu chips in the ps3, to slightly outpreform the pc. I think one core is fine, i want better graphics,ai,framerate than some nice Physics.. Havok has been great in the past. How can 4.0 improve on this?

Graphics are handled by GPU mostly so it' s a great way to use the Cell - make it run Physics and AI - it' s what Cell' s strong points are.

Exactly. 360' s triple core setup has it' s advantages and definAtely isn' t a slouch but CELL was built for the kind of calculations required for things like advanced physics.

360 games will use Havok 4.0 too, most notably Halo 3, and 360 will also see Ageia Physics, but PS3 will be far more efficient for things like this. Whether it' ll be noticable in the games or not is another question.

I wonder if developers will bother with advanced physics. As long as it looks pretty I won' t care unless the game revolves around physics like in puzzles or something like that.

And Saturn was more powerful than Ps1, but nobody ever learned to harness that power; Ps1 was just easier to code for. I wonder if it will happen here too?

NO papado, playstation 1 was more powerful than saturn even if it had more memory than psone. that was well known back then.

well it ac tually depends - the strongest point PSX had was true 3D graphics - while Saturn was design with 2D in mind and had added 3D capabilities later.

There are strong points of both systems and bothe have their weaknesses.

absolutly true gangsta , 2d fights in saturn were beter than on playstation, thet is thanks to the larger memory but you know , even in the 32bit era, it' s the 3d stuff that were more important..

Whether it' ll be noticable in the games or not is another question.

That one' s gonna be up to developers. Some are going to throw all the advanced physics they can into their games, and others will just find colorful ways around it.
