Xbox 1 and GC games in 480p look decent if you' re standing failry far from the TV, all PS2 games look like shit, even the 480p ones since ps2 doesnt really do 480p it just upscales from 480i.

And asking quez won' t make much difference since he won' t be using component cables and therefore 480p.

I have to say I' m shocked by LG LCD quality - I' ve got this laptop with their screen and it' s amazing - it' s better than my friends new MacBook Pro and Apple always had the best screens.Saturation, brightness and contrast are incredible. It shocked me when I learned that it' s a native 1400x1050 panel.

They really make good LCD' s.The worst thing about LCD Tv' s is their native resolution of 1366x768.

Yeah, i had the guy set the Samsung and LG side by side. They had a BBCHD preview disc running showing some wildlife footage and the LG was definately the nicest in terms of colour and black levels.

I' ll probably go with the LG. It' s really impressed my today, and after i' d pretty much settled on the Samsung R74 i' m glad i went to have one last look!

Im going to call and order one tomorrow and pick it up on Saturday as they didn' t have any instore. I now just need to find a DVD recorder capable of recording 720p. They do make those don' t they?! I' m strugling to find one locally.

Don' t forget to check your TV at store for bad pixels (they aren' t included in warranty) and definitely check some racing or fpp or other fast paced game on it (to see the response time).

I use VGA you idiots.

:P

My native reso on the screen is 1366x768 and ofc i have that on with my 360 in the dashboard.

ofc it scales down to 1280x720.

But anyway,it looks perfekt on my LCD TV at 720p.
ofc with VGA you don' t use " 720p" but 1280x720.

I laugh upon you for thinking apple screens are the best. They are decent but only a nub would consider them the best.

oh btw now we have a 56" 1080P DLP Samsung too. It looks better than the 65" . The viewing angle is amazing and maintains the insane contrast ratio even directly to the side. Not that the 65" was bad though.

RE: My first HDTV - Sep 24, 2006 10:58
I bought the LG in the end. I pissed the sales clerk off because they didn' t have a HD feed running on most of the TV' s, just the ones with their own demo' s, and i wanted to see 4 models side by side running the exact same HD footage. It took them and hour to set it up.

Anyway, the LG was bay far the nicest and the only thing putting me off a Bravia was the cost, otherwise the decision would have been easier. When the Bravias come down in price next year i' ll buy a 40" and try and mount it on my wall, but i seriously doubt it would take the weight and i' m not sure where the supports are.

My 360 and Dreamcast look superb, but the PS2 looks awful and the Gamecube looks blurred. The TV has a feature called XD that i can' t turn off, i think i might need to figure out how to access the service menu and configure everything manually rather than use the shit standard menu.

I now need a new laptop. Anybody like to offer their advice?!

My friend traded his Toshiba Qosmio laptop for a MacBook and he' s never been happier.

Well are you going for a gaming laptop or entertainment laptop or work laptop? If you are going for an entertainment or gaming laptop I would go with a higher end Dell. Although I dislike Dell they do make the best laptops.

Yeah, i was looking at Dells the other day. Their XPS range looks cool, and i was comparing them to Alienware laptops. I mean, a 2.16 GHz, 4MB L2 cache, 667MHz FSB processor is impressive for a laptop, and 2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM is enough (though i have seen some that support 4GB but they cost £1000 extra!!!).

I' m not sure what to get.

Get an Intel Core 2 Duo. 2 GB of memory is a good amount. But if you are going for a good gaming computer a laptop is going to cost way more than a regular PC.

I don' t advise going for something fantabulously amazing, not if you' ve got a solid home PC, although I guess it depends on what you' re using it for. If it' s just basic net surfing, video viewing, word processing type stuff, I' d say go for a nice Dell. . If you do end up getting a Dell though, check the battery for a Sony logo, Setting your loins ablaze right during the middle of a lecture really isn' t much of a turn on for the ladies.

Yeah go Intel. AMD sucks, especially with laptops... though I haven' t owned an AMD laptop in a long time, piece of shit used to run out battery charge in 1-1.5 hours.

RE: My first HDTV - Oct 05, 2006 21:06
I didn' t buy a DELL, i bought a Toshiba P100-240.

Teh specs...

Intel Core Duo Processor T2400 | clock speed : 1.83 GHz | front side bus : 667 MHz | 2nd level cache : 2 MB

2048 (1,024 + 1,024) MB RAM| maximum expandability : 4,096 MB | DDR2 RAM (533 MHz)

160 GB HDD

17 " | Toshiba TruBrite WXGA+ TFT display

NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB

It came with XP MCE which is actually pretty cool, and i chose this " desk book" over the DELL XPS, Alienware Aurora (because i couldn' t get a hands-on with one) and Toshibas Qosmio G30 series (because they only come with GeForce Go 7600 and i wanted a 7900).

I have to say that for a laptop the P100-240 is REALLY impressive. It' s also good to know that my graphics card is superior to RSX!!!

Half Life 2 (including Ep1), Doom 3 and FEAR (the only games i' ve tested so far) can all be played on maximum settings, all getting 80+ fps. Even though it' s cost me nearly £1400 i' m extremely impressed with the performance. I' ll post some photo' s and screenshots (from games) on Friday when i' m back home (i' m in Sheffield playing ice hockey tonight).

The only thing about laptops that annoy me is the short battery lives making using them away from a socket pointless. Still, this thing kills my VAIO which is going to my girlfriend and it performs better than my desktop. I' m impressed.

I know, but my selection was limited by the fact that i wouldn' t accept 1GB RAM and a 7600 GTX 256MB and wanted 2GB RAM and the 7900 GTX 512MB.

It' s perfect for what i' ll be using it for, though i may still get an Aurora late next year. I' d probably import though because Alienware products are extremely expensive here, much more so than in the US, but then the problem is not actually being able to see the thing and get a proper look at it before i buy it.

Also, with Quad core technology coming next year and dual screen laptop technology looking like it' s just around the corner something else may crop up.

damnnnnn I never thought about dual screen laptops. That would be pretty friggn' sweet. It could fold up then slide out or something like that and you' de have this huge friggn' dual screen.
