PS3 won' t ship with HDMI cables

On the official PS3 website in the ' About' tab, select question 6 ' What is HDMI?' and read the small print.

HDMI cable not included. Additional equipment may be required to use the HDMI connector.

It' s not a big deal but when you' re paying so much for a console you' d expect it to ship with the cables required to get the best picture.

I' d say they should bundle it with component cables - these are the most popular HD connections.

Wow, so they can' t afford to include HDMI, even in the Premium? That' s sorely dissapointing. Yeah I' d be happy with composite, but they' ve been claiming " true High-Def right out of the box... that is if you' ve bought all our other stuff" .

Yeah, the bundles should be interesting, if they go totally spartan with the premium kit, I' m gonna have to boot some heads.

They likely will ship with component cables but while component supports 1080p too DVI and HDMI produce a better picture.

if you paying over 3000 usd for your tv then it sure as hell better come with everything

for 3k US. I want 2160p on mine. :)
They' re getting really inexpensive now where I' m at, Especially LCD. They' ll still kill you for plasma, but then again I' m a CRT kind of guy, CRT-HD has been cheap for ages, so it' s not a big deal for me.

Component is a safer bet - everyone has it in their HD TV.

I don' t care about the cables I get with any system - it' s like using your ipod headphones (means stupid).When I pay for something a lot , I want it to perform as good as it can - it means getting high quality cables (or Sennheiser PX100 headphones for your portable audio [50$])

And above all - this " HDMI not included" can change - it' s to early to say what' s gonna be inside - even if it' s on their official site (remember that this site claims Killzone is realtime :) )

yeah an know you can only watch one thing at a time even though you can have up to for channel picture in picture i say hell just unplug something esel and then plug it back up when your done right now i using only one of my hdmi ports for my crapy ass cable bos that thing breaks like no other so i have one free to rock and roll with

I' m going to buy the Samsung HDTV i posted about the the Gearwhores thread. I went to have a look at it the other day and it' s fucking stunning!

I thought they required digital cables like DVI and HDMI.

HDMI is required in order to play bluray as far as i remember, its part of the security issues of it!

Fine, then I' m taking a picture of my crappy 21" SDTV and my BS 14" fixed-cable monitor, those things are the sweetness. (goes off to cry a little)

So you won' t be able to play Blu-Ray in 1080p straight out of the box. That' s a bitch slap seeing as the damn thing costs so much, now if you want to maximise it' s potential you have to pay extra for cables.

HDMI cables can be bought cheap but the better ones still cost a lot. Circuit City' s cost $124.99

Not to mention they' re going to confuse the living blazes out of people with this choice. Consumers are going to run out and pick up the first thing branded as HDMI and not look at the category. Correct me if I' m wrong, but most HDMI cables aren' t tested for 1080p, most of them stop at 720p. So people are going to need a category 2 cable for full high-def, and instead, they' re going to get a category 1 cable in the mail and start complaining.

Samsung are now providing the lcd tech for some of the sony bravia screens, which is funny as Samsung is a " Microsoft Technology Partner " LOL. Marketing hey!?

Seriously though, Samsung HD TV' s just seem to look better with 360 compared to similar Hitachi / Sharp / LG etc..

And I' m not bias either, although I have probably shipped a good thousand or so samsung LCD 19" monitors in my time, for the money they cannot be beaten!

I' d like to see those compasion web pages like they produced for the 360, showing you what the likely picture would be with each cable. It will be a long time until the rest of the world has HDMI anyways.

My HDTV CRT has HDMI but I haven' t been able to test it yet. All in native 1080i.

It would become confuseing for some people to include two video cables, and not everybody has Hdmi. Ok, only a few have Hdmi tv' s. Crazy.

It' s obvious, that Sony won' t slip a HDMI cable even if you purchase a $599 unit, I guess Sony is aware that not many people has a TV/HDTV that support HDMI output., and knowing that Sony is not gonna waste any money with extra componet. So I assume they are gonna use this as an extra seperate add-on retail their official HDMI cables around $30-40, while 3rd party accessories will retail $25-30, we all are gonna get a standard AV/HD cable, like what Microsoft did.
