Flashed 360' s - Aug 30, 2006 21:04
Ok i now have the opportunity to have my 360 flashed to play copied games. Usually i don' t go for it but the cost of next gen games is getting on my nerves.

I realise it isn' t eactly safe and could probably be patched down the line via an update but i know guys who had it done 3 months ago and they only pirate single player games (so they don' t have to connect to Xbox Live).

It' s tempting as PAL versions of the games are often up on the net weeks before they hit stores and it' d mean i could play games from other regions too.

I' m just not sure. What do you guys think?!

Naughty pirate boy!

Next-gen games are a rip off though, however I usually just resort to not buying them.

Yea so naughty....I wouldn' t do it personally however I don' t condemn it by any means because like you said for many price is a major issue so just do what you feel appropriate.

by the way have a look at this

I' m pretty sure this will be locked quick time as it' s a clear breach of forum rules but I' ll give my 2 cents anyway.

Don' t bother. Firmware exploits aren' t worth the trouble, risk and bother you go through in order to make it happen. They' re pretty limited and are only used by pirates - who give the mod scene a bad name. Is it really worth killing half of the 360 experience (Live) for such a petty thing? Wait for a modchip (or softmod equivalent). They' re the only things really worth the trouble in my opinion.

I have my Xbox modded but don' t use it for pirating games. XBMC is the greatest things to happen to the Xbox and the plethora of other apps that increase functionality is what I' m really into.

Can' t afford games? Then find another hobby because gaming has never been cheap.

I can definately afford the games i' m just not entirely happy about the price being increased as the same games (PC ports) are £20 cheaper when released that the 360 versions.

I' ve already spent around £1300/£1400 on my 360. The games in the UK aren' t cheap by any means, they translate to about $95. I import when i can and buy most of my games online but when i see my friends playing Dead Rising 3 weeks before it' s PAL release it makes me wonder whether it' d be worth it.

I decided not to mod this gen, i want the opportunity of live, demo' s, trailers, online play!

But yeah im frustrated about waiting for games as well! almost to the point where i dont really want to play Dead Rising because the bastards let me wait a month! Lego SW is looking more and more attractive!

I know!! I feel the same way with dead rising I look online and people are already talking about their experience with it and I feel like going on strike when it comes out.......but I know I still wanna play it really bad to see what it' s about.

Ok, so it' s not a very good idea afterall. I think i just needed convincing of that.

While i don' t mind modding the case (i' ve ordered a couple of the cases i posted about before) i don' t want to risk fucking the console up. I' ve had it since launch and it hasn' t died on me once.

If Microsoft release a black version i may reconsider with a view to using the one i have to play imports or install the uncoming homebrew apps. Much like with my two PSP' s. I just wouldn' t connect the console i have to Xbox Live and migrate my account to the new machine.

It' s perfectly safe - no soldering no nothing - you just change your DVD firmware. It was hard to pay 50$ for games you had no idea about (I' m talking current gen) , but now when those demos are out I think you can check every game and decide which one is worth the money.

I was gonna paint on my one and do some modding to my controllers, then I saw someone from denmark with a PGR one and got jealous and was gonna get a black case....but then had a strong feeling telling me to wait till after tgs cos i have a feeling they might introduce more colours. if so I want a blue, black or black and white one. Still wanna loose down my controllers and much around with those though.

While it may not brick it they could potentially ban me from using Xbox Live and from recieving any updates.

To save my ex box from becomming loft fodder I have decided to mod it. I have kept it since launch day, and it has served me very well.

I want to mod it to backup all my games to it, then putting them all in the loft. That much is perfectly legal. There is also plenty of homebrew for it at the minute.

As for the 360, due to it' s PC like nature, the homebrew is one day going to be amazing. But I wouldnt do anything other than aesthetic to it at present as the legitimate uses for the 360 currently outweigh the negative.

XNA Studio express for one! That is going to rock hard.

if i were you magic i' ll do taht firmware thing (if i' m sure it' s 99% safe) ..

i' ll buy my favorite game , big games that i would buy regarless if my xbox is moded or not, then i' ll download othe rgame that i would never buy but are still interesting...
nobody can buy all the games out there, i think as long as you buy your favorite games , you won' t hurt the industry by a bit.

Majik, If you go ahead with this, pm me, I know a guy who sells 360 games for 7 quid each, and 5 quid for 4 or more.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.

Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

yep :)

But there' ll be some solutions (like Modchip with switch ON / OFF) to prevent this soon :)

Anyway those demos make up for my biggest issue - buying a 50$ game without knowing if I like it.

I would never flash my 360.

If you really want to do it,wait until 2007 when 360 is cheaper and buy a core package and try it out.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Well i would recommend having 2 consoles when trying that.
Because the warranty wont work.
So i would recommend trying it first on a cheap core package first.

Also his xbl account is tied with that HDD.

That' s why i said i' d do it when the black version is released/announced.

I can easily switch the HDD' s and migrate my account to the new machine.

I believe that when you do get banned from Xbox Live due to a software mod it is not reported to MS. I had my Xbox soft modded to run XBMC and accidentally logged on to Live and my system was banned. When I called MS they had no idea my system was banned and were very persistent to sign me up for another year of Live service. I gave them every excuse I could to cancel but they had a counter agruement for every scenario. The rep actually thought my system was able to go online, of course I was not able to.

And yet the console wpould still be unable to use Xbox Live which was my initial point.

I also said i wouldn' t connect it to Xbox Live and would buy another 360 (in black) and migrate my current account to that machine.

Days are numbered till this thing gets locked, so here I go. If you value your 360, wait till a chip comes out with a switch. It saves you from having to buy another 360 for live & other legal exploits, and if you get someone who knows what they' re doing, you shouldn' t have alot to worry about in terms of the box malfunctioning.

A better alternative , is softmodding, never touching hardware, and popping in bootdisk after bootdisk. I' m cosmetic-modding my friend' s PS2 with a fliptop for just that purpose.

The best option of course is to wait for TGS, to see if they' re releasing a black 360!
