Haha, we reviewed the original PS2 version almost 3 years ago! But the mechanical enemies in this version look kinda cool..
3 things the Earth Defense Force games have going for them: Destructible environments (you can level entire cities), TONS upon TONS of enemy insects coming at ya (The PS2 version had an almost endless amount of enemies coming at you, I' m almost afraid to think of what a 360 version with throw at ya), and GIANT Godzilla-like bosses to battle throughout the cities.. Part 2 was kinda cool cause they added some cool new weapons, a female soldier to the game and also they added a new locale: London.. But even with those additions I loved the original a bit more..
It' ll be interesting to see if the game keeps its low budget feel or if they invest some decent development dollars into it cause it' s definitely NOT bad at all.. With the ability to ride combat vehicles, unlock and use various types of guns, and just go crazy leveling the environment around you it should definitely make for a fun, arcade-like action-shooting game that I' m pretty sure will NOT appeal to many gamers due to its straightforward and simplistic gameplay. Also, the camera can become quite annoying at times.
