This game is fun, controls take a bit of getting used to
Nah, the controls are perfect. For those that haven' t played it yet, you run in whatever direction you push the analog stick in (like an MGS game), ' A' is jump, ' B' is pick up/action, ' X' is attack (with pressing and holding giving different attacks for melee weapons) and the right trigger is aim.
I had almost expected the aiming to be done on the right stick like in games like Ghost Recon, but i was pleasantly suprised with it being mapped to the left stock, ...just like RE4!!!
You can run and shoot but it works like the older RE games where you have to judge the direction your firing in without a crosshair, and just like RE4 you have to stop to precision aim.
I love the controls and if you' ve played RE4 the aiming here will be 2nd nature.
The demo itself it awesome. You' re shown a cutscene which sets up a mission for you but also shows that this isn' t the start of the game. The cutscene itself is superb with great voice acting and dialogue as well as great animation.
The demo section is the Paradise Plasa section of the mall and probably contains 2 or 3 hundred zombies.
You can pick up and carry any item in the level up to a maximum of 5 (cycling through them with the bumber buttons). You start out with a sledge hammer, a scythe and a shotgun, but some of the zombies have weapons that you can take after you' ve killed them (the police officers particulary as they have nightsticks and handguns) like hunting knives or baseball bats.
Going into the sporting goods store you can grab a golf club or take a skateboard (which you can ride around on!). It' s also worth noting that there' s a female zombie pushing a shopping cart around that you can push through the hordes if you hold ' X' . Everything else from clothes hangers, plant pots, chairs, benches etc can all be used as weapons. The golf club is especially cool as holding down the attack button charges up your attack and allows you to fire golf balls at zombies heads!
The zombies themselves all look very different and it' s not at all like the parts of Kameo and N3 where enemies all look the same, it' s looks far cooler! All of their limbs can be removed and the scythe is uber-awesome as holding attack lets you cut their legs off. The attacks are VERY satisfying and the sledgehammer feels as powerful as it should. The meleee weapons in this game are awesome!
The guns are just as cool and feel as they should. The handgun in the demo packs a punch and the shotgun is obviously good for clearing paths and getting out of desperate situations.
I haven' t actually done the mission yet but i' ve gone to the cinema and seen a cutscene about a demented priest and i' ve been exterminating zombies by every possible means in the main area. This game rocks and i' ll likely have more to say later!
