No 360 Price Drop, ...but... - Jul 31, 2006 23:04

“I don’t want to reveal any plans at the moment because we want to keep a number of surprises up our sleeve. We will ensure we are good value and we’ll do that through having a variety of pricing on games, a variety of pricing on console offers,” said Richard Teversham, a marketing manager for Xbox Europe, in an interview with MCV UK publication.

So instead of dropping the price they' ll just package free games with the consoles?!

I' m intrigued by the " variety of pricing on games" quote. Since it' s looking like PS3 games could cost even more than 360 games, would Microsoft drop the RRP back down to what it was for new Xbox games and just have the higher (current) pricetag for the bigger games like Gears of War and Halo 3?!

Yes,XBox360-gears of war bundle is a great way to get consumers and to sell GoW into a million hit.
Even if you break 2 legs from a crab it still runs!
What you gotta do is find its weak spot and do massive damage at it.

Rumoring going around that M$ will drop the 360 core sku and just have the premium option at a little lower price, since it is still cheaper than the ps3 20Gb.
Change is inevitable. Except from a vending machine.

Viva La Revolution! erm, I mean Viva La Wii!

The are rumors of a Premium PGR3 & Kameo package for the same price as the Premium package is now. So instead of dropping the consoles price they would be essentially giving away free games.

When PS3 hits i expect the Premium package to be bundled with the HD-DVD drive and a game for less than the lower end PS3.

There' ve been rumours (gamespot) that they will include PGR3 (since it lost it' s value now) 3 months of XBL and some points for marketplace for 399.

The UK' s biggest game shop has sent emails out to people saying that pre-orders that had been priced at £39.99 (usually £49.99 but £10 cheaper if you order online) had been reduced to £29.99.

Surely that points to a price drop for 360 games, back down to what new games cost last generation?!

It really sucked to add 10$ to new games (especially since PC prices for the same titles did not change) - I hope this new price is here to stay.

That would be very welcome. £50 games are a complete rip off imo.

Bundling games is a pretty clever way of doing a price point move. If you drop the price of the console itself, MS will lose that amount of money on each console. But bundling a free game means they only lose about half of the £50 the consumer thinks they are getting for free.

This way, they should get more sales and less of a hit to profits. Crafty buggers. [:' (]

In Sweden the 360' s price has basically been cut already. It was launched for 4000 SEK. Now you can buy it for 3500 in many stores. If they have it in stock that is.

In most cases. I would argue that GRAW is the only real exception based on it' s immense replay value and depth.

Games like PGR3 and CoD2 were well worth the money i paid for them too but PDZ really fucking pissed me off. The value of other 360 titles i would say is based on their Xbox Live components. If online play features heavily then i' m more likely to be comfortable with the price.

I wouldn' t mind the BIG games being £45-£50 because that' s how it was last gen (£45) but for multi-platform titles and average games i don' t really want to pay more than £40 if i buy it from the shop.

Buying online i can get 360 titles for £39.99 with free delivery, but i can buy from Gamestation where i work part-time and get a 25% discount which is slightly better and more convenient.

Rockstars Table Tennis released at £29.99 because it doesn' t have much of a single player campaign. Most of the launch titles have been reduced to £29.99 too.

I rarely buy games anymore because they all usually suck, I' m subcribed to Gamefly.com, Last week I rented Prey and BFMEII for x360, played prey 3 hours (which is apparently 50% of the game since it only takes 6 hours to beat) and BFMEII for like 10 minutes and dropped them both back at the mailbox, you have to be pretty fucking stupid to pay retail price for games like that...

Oh my!

Looks like you should just quit gaming, and save the money, buy a game of chess or trivial pursuit.

If you think Prey is a bad game, you havent played one in years have you?

Yes I usually avoid playing bad games. Why would I play a bad game?

That' s the reason I subscribe to gamefly. I can try things so I know if I like it..kinda like trying on clothes. And if the game is good, you can buy it from them anyway.
