All Things Clancy - Jul 22, 2006 03:55
I love Tom Clancy games (with the exception of Rainbow Six: Black Arrow and Lockdown), i' ve made that clear time and again and i' m about to make it clear AGAIN.

See, i like hard games and i like realism (don' t confuse that with ' realistic' ) in games. I like to know that a single round can kill me and force me to start again. It' s frustrating at times but it' s extremelt satifying when you complete your goal.

So far this year and on Xbox 360 in general, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter has been my most played game both offline and on. I love it. Bearing that in mind there are 2 games coming soon to my next gen machine that also bear the Clancy prefix; Rainbow Six: Vegas and Splinter Cell: Double Agent, ...and i' ll be buying both on their respective release dates!

Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was probably my favourite (tied maybe with RE4) game from the previous generation and so my hopes are high that Double Agent will meet my high expectations and be worth the £50 ($90-ish) i' ll have to spend on it.

Anyway, there' s some direct feed HD (360) gameplay footage HERE (about half way down just under the ' Zidane Viral Video' that shows Fisher headbutting trrorists to death)

These are screencaps from the video...

(check out the scars on the back of Fishers head, ...i can only imagine how RE5 will look!!!)

The solo campaign will keep me busy for a while but the online means just as much (if not more) to me and the online is sounding REALLY fu*king good...

The player count has been upped to 6 (anybody who is sitting there saying " six players, ....its that all?!" needs to understand how Splinter Cells multi-player works), and while there are the usual Spy vs Merc modes on offer:

-Infiltration
-Protect And Destroy

...there are all new Spy vs Spy and Merc vs Merc modes:

-Team Hack (teams work to hack the others terminals)
-Deathmatch
-Team Deathmatch (YAY!!!)
-Blitz (silimar to the Assault mode in Unreal)
-Key Run (teams battle to get a key and then use it - CTF)
-Sam vs All (YAY!!!)
-Countdown (killing opponents extends your life)

THEN there' s the Online Career mode where you' ll be able to advance your character (be it spy or merc) through team/clan play, working your way up through a ranking system until you reach either ' Echelon Spy or Upsilon Mercenary' by completeing missions. Like in Black Arrow you' ll be able to upgrade/improve your character stats and will gain new equipment and gadgets.

YAY!!!

ALSO, clans/teams will be able to train against bots, which while not exactly idea will still be useful for working out strategies without the fear of failure affecting their ranking.

Lastly, only the 360 version of the game will have 3 on 3 play (the rest having 2 on 2), only the 360 version will allow you to fight underwater, ...and only the 360 version will have the new reflective camoflage (invisbility)...YAY!!!

This game has NOT been announced for PS3. HA!

Splinter Cell? Now that' s something...... it' s a game!

SHOCK HORROR!!!

I thought they were coming out simultaneously???

PS3 gamers can have their " Assassin' s Creed"
....
...

Oh wait..

You can, but for about 3 months! Yes!

Rumour has it, that if you hold your blu-ray disc up to the light, the extra
16GBs do something... mm-hmm, what else did you think you were getting for
that price?

I really liked Chaos Theory, but I' m not so sure about this one. It might have been the retarded guy playing in the video, but it seemed kinda hard to hit a stationary target right in front of you, and getting shot once from point blank didn' t seem to do a single thing. Not much realism there...

Perhaps theres a difficulty mode which' ll make things better, but not in an unfair way like some parts of Ghost Recon were on hard!

Zidane Viral Video was fun though!

Hitman' s great! I love that series as well. But it' s an acquired taste I think.

Playing with Fisher on the other hand is more plug and play...

hitman 1 had great ideas...i loved the first 3 levels...go to a rooftop and snipe on only one of the triad liders so that they start a war between themselves...briliant

but after hitman 1 the series kinda got worst...this is only an opinion based on videos since i only played Hitman 1.

But Splinter cell: double agent is looking great...more than one way to finish your missions.

I' ve changed the name of the thread because i' ve decided to post some Vegas st*t too.

What you don' t like Clancy games? Fu*k you, i do!

(note that while the original source video was 720p, my screencaps although set to the same resolution don' t appear to be as sharp as the video - the game, like Advanced Warfighter has zero aliasing!)

720p Direct Feed Demo Walkthrough

I' m seriously hoping that the rapelling, 3rd person cover perpective and blind fire make it into the multi-player half of the game too.

As i' ve said, i' m a huge Clancy game fan and a fan of military shooters in general so this is looking like gaming gold to me. I know this will appeal to Quez, Tiz & co, but what about the rest of you guys (Gangsta, Bishonen, Ginjirou etc etc) ???

Do you guys find this as impressive as i do?

(unlike Double Agent, this HAS been been announced for PS3)

I love tactical shooters with SWAT being a favourite. But I never liked Clancy' s Rainbow Six series for some reason.
This game looks very, very promising though.

When I first saw it, I practically crapped my pants. The visuals were amazing yeah, but the gameplay, that just looks awesome. I doubt they' d show us all those nice features in the gameplay trailer, just to abandon them for stop & pop gameplay online.

I can fairly say that Hitman, however, sucks ramen. You get into a small room, and the camera starts jumping up and down like a jack-russel frickin terrier! It' s a royal pain. Yeah it looks pretty, but there' s just not much to it.

Hitman has nice ideas but it' s always poorely executed. I loved the Russian? level in Hitman 2 where you start in the trainstation, ...but that' s about it.

I' m not keen on games that push for the same old locations like China Town or whatever. I mean, how would the locals fail to recognise a 6" + bald white male who has a barcode on the back of his neck, ...dressed as a Triad?!

The Hitman premise is great, -- who wouldn' t want to play as a hitman/assassin (Carlos the Jackal springs to mind), but the Hitman games just feel " messy" .

It' s the same with the Tenchu games. They' ve refused to grow up. That' s why i love Clancy games, ...they evolve and improve with every installment (not counting Lockdown).

I found the HitMan series to be quite excessively violent, and it' s not fun at all.

A bit over the top to be honest... My older brother who is 22 loves:

HitMan
Pro Evo
GTA

He' s a mainstream gamer, so I don' t really expect him to like games like:

SC: Double Agent
MGS

I think my brother is broken...

I' ll take him back to the shop.

Splinter Cell is my lovely espionage fix of games, and Metal Gear is a nice
art direction experience that I don' t understand but love to bits.

Imagine what MGS would be like if you could play it for longer than half an hour?

Wow!

*Thinks about it some more*

Hey hold on a MINUTE...

WOWWEE!!!

It falls under Shenmue

I wish some other games would fall under the Shenmue genre.. Games would
be amazing..

Imagine they released Shenmue 3 on the dreamcast...

Back on topic: I need my splinter cell... its been ages since I played Next-gen
Chaos Theory.

I' ve played all SC games , but I didn' t quite enjoy them all as much as I did SC1 - it was new and cool , Pandoras tomorrow was pretty disappointing to me, but I had fun.SC3 for Xbox had amazing graphics - it was fuckin next gen back then :)

The thing is, I got bored of the series. This new SC game seems to bring some serious changes in both story and gameplay, while keeping the graphics as always " shockingly amazing" .I' ll definitely try, but I' m hoping for some serious improvements this time.

GRAW seems like it' s very cool so I' m going to finish it one day (I only played it for 30 minutes ) - as for Vegas , it' s got cool visuals , but I' ll wait for some reviews.

The thing is - those games are all equally impressive in visuals , but varied in gameplay quality.

Yes.and dreamfall,a game that surround more the story then the gameplay.

Its like a interactive movie these kind of games.
I love them, hwoever game critics dosnt get we play them for the story/character,they think its only for the gameplay.
a 10/10 story with plots can be a 9/10 game, even if the gameplay is 7/10

Improvements?!

The original and Pandora tomorrow featured the 3 alarms and you out mechanism which was cool for the first game but felt a little tedious in the 2nd. It was thrown out for Chaos Theory and replaced with enemies being on higher levels of alert (going and putting on kevlar vests for example) each time you were spotted or triggered an alarm. It served to make the game harder when you made a mistake and for the most part it worked perfectly.

Pandora Tomorrow introduced; the ability to jump further from a split jump, the SWAT doorway pivot, secondary functions for weapons, new vision modes, motion sensorsa nd most importantly multiplayer.

Chaos Theory continued in much the same vein introducing; the knife (which on top of being a usable close quaters weapon can be used to cut through fabric barriers, ...like tents), a customizable modular rifle (complete with shoygun attatchment), electronic jammers, the ability to attack whilst hanging on/upside down, shoulder switching whilst leaning up against cover, the ability to bash through doors very quickly and far better AI.

I expect Double Agent will definately see a ton of new additions and it' s nice to see that we' ll get to play during daytime too!

The Splinter Cell games have never disappointed or bored me at all, but it should be noted that some things in the PS2 and Gamecube versions are quite different from the Xbox game and therefore affect the gameplay. The series has been " best" on PC and Xbox.

What improvements would you like to see?!

Why did they take the SWAT turn out of Chaos Theory?? Don' t Ubi realise
how helpful that was, I could clear a room in a matter of seconds!

I hope it' s back for SC: Double Agent.

IIIII have Chapter 2, however our times are so mirrored it' s hard to get a working date. That and I' ve been so fatigued as I been letting my caffiene addiction reside. Been nearly 2 weeks now...two weeks of headaches and laziness...but at least I' m sleeping again.

What improvements would you like to see?!

I' d like gameplay to be more fluid for one - it seems like jumping and some thing seem a bit stiff - it' s not a big deal , but can be easily improved.

I think that enemies have crappy animations - they die like dolls and they can take way too many shots.Another stupid thing is : when you shoot some enemy from the dark he knows exactly where you are and when other join him (and even if you moved in total darkness) they see you perfectly.

I also don' t like this entire concept of killing all enemies and walking easily and triggering alarms with no results and so on - for this the MGS (never ending enemies) works much better - it keeps you stealthy all the time.

Also there are a lot of stupid situations when, for instance in CT there was a location with a room made of glass walls in it, so the guards saw you and kept shooting that stupid wall of glass - and they couldn' t leave that room through the door. - SC games are full of stuff like that.

These are some improvements I like to see :)

Quez - Dreamfall got pretty good reviews in some places while indigo was very well received

For an arcady style game endless enemies work fine. For a game based on observing patterns & listening in on conversations would be a bit harder. And unless the place of infiltration was that of a enemy base, where would these guys come from? The game is heavily based on realism.

As for endless shooting bonanzas, unless you' re a bad shot most go down in 2 to 3 shots and 1 shot if hit in vital areas. Dont forget these guys where protective gear (somthing ramped up for every alarm triggered, didnt you catch the joke in CT?). It would be nice, however, if enemies could be injured but remain alive. Thing is I want that from all games almost. Cap them in the knee and have them limp away or immobilize them. This would help at the damn eye scan things when if you mess up and have to incapcitate the enemy instead of sneak up and put the choke hold on.

One last thing Ive noticed is when you shoot a guy form the dakrness they dont always know where you are but tend to blind fire in the general direction. I suppose youd prefer they just go " Huh where???" and investigate...a bullet shot...

Improvments that are needed..more manuevers, I loved that swat turn.

There are two double Agent multiplayer video' s available HERE but unfortunately they' re from YOUTUBE.

The Spy video shows a shitload of new moves and it looks smooth as hell playing it. I suggest Gangsta checks it out because there is nothing stiff about the movements here.

The Merc video shows off new stuff too like the flying explodable drone! Yay!

It' s not made clear which platform the footage is from but it' s either the Xbox or Xbox 360 as the ' A' and ' B' butons appear onscreen.

This is gonna kick ass!
