Enchanted Arm - Jul 17, 2006 19:37
is anyboy here excited about this japanese RPG for 360? I have seen many trailers since 360 launched but i don´t remember anyone mentioning this game here. It´s supposed to be released outside japan this summer.

It' s turn-based.... I' m not particularly a fan of turn-based but the story interests
me.

Although, after having witnessed the first 10 mins of enchant arms, it looks like
a typical japanese anime kind of game.

The main character is always tired, and loves to eat and sleep (Goku and naruto?)

His " best friend" is great at everything (Sasuke) and tends to call the main
character an idiot if he gets in the way of a fight. He also jumps to the main
characters help at the cost of his own well being.

The main character (Atsuma, I think) is always scratching his head and laughing.

It caught my eye, the first time I saw it, and has definitely seen improvements
since they began developing it. I' m buying so that my brother can complete it
and I can see the cut-scenes and story.

EDIT: I also don' t know why they didn' t just leave it as Enchant Arm... That
sounds more appealing and believe it or not, from what I have seen, makes more
sense.

...average Final Fantasy wanna-be.... ...certainly not worth 50 - 60 new earth credits....

...if you like JRPG' s, you' d be a fool not to wait until november and get FFXII for around half the price.....

....visually, it looks pretty suspect too.... ....you' d think that FFXII was on 360 and Enchantment arm was on PS2....

That guy' s gay XD Seriously, he is. He hangs around that ' Sasuke' guy, literally. Uses a sexaphone to attack too.

I think the South-east Asia release is the best. It' s Japanese dialouge with English subtitles.

I don' t mind dubs, but I don' t really have a high expectation of this game as it is, and the dub would prolly be worse =/

Buuut...until Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey, it' s the best we can do

Yes, I am. I just hope its a good first offering of an RPG for the 360, but it does look pretty nice, I' m glad its getting a release in the all too often ignored Europe too!

I think the other character uses a saxophone, Atsuma has a crazy arm and
seems to be the ' Demon Fox' of the story.

Okay, first of all, the in-game scenes from Enchanted Arms look WAY better than those of FFXII (which are only slightly improved from FFX). I' ll be the first to admit that the CG scenes from FF look AMAZING, but Square/Enix has a HUGE budget for cutscenes as this is the core of their games. The cut-scenes from EnArm look pretty amazing too (though not as good).

Second, why should somebody " wait" for FFXII? Can' t they get both? Enchanted Arms looks to bring something fresh to the table, and you shoot it down? Why? If someone has a 360, why shouldn' t they pick it up?

Third, why should FFXII cost " half the price" ? Is it releasing for $25 or $30?

Fourth, Leeann Tweeden is HOTNESS, and since I mentioned her name my observations are more valid than yours!

Whoops, sorry! I thought you were going through all 3 ' main' characs

Yeah, Atsuma is the one with the demon arm. The other guy with the yellow hair is the gay one XD

Although the FFXII ones are jaggy, but they ARE better than the mega-chunky ones of Enchanted Arm. From the trailer, besides the facial expressions, the rest of the character models are worse than Jade Empire' s (even the fingers are bigger!).

Now that I' ve rewatched it, you may be right, but my point is that the difference is negligible, and that eNaRM looks SWEET! It' s an RPG for God' s sake! Graphics are one of the least important aspects of an RPG.

What I' m saying is that eNaRM looks like a good game. The story looks cool, and the battle system has some innovation in it that looks worth while. If you HAD to choose between that and FFXII, maybe the FF game would be a better choice, considering their pedigree and budget for that title, but who here HAS to choose one or the other?

I don' t touch anything that' s turn based and japanese. Even if it' s a good game, there' s always better for my dollar. Its all in the gameplay for me, if I wanted to watch impressive cinematics I' d watch FF: spirits within... o.k. bad example.

What I really can' t stand is how the Battle System is though.

It' s not that I don' t like grid-maps. That' s great in TACTICAL games like FFTactics or possibly Disgaia (sp)

BUT, having the random encounters of FF AND a grid map that you have to set-up each and everyone time, is REALLY pushing it. I' m talking sloooooow and repetitive progression there.

At least with the usual progression you just get repetitive.

This could be my next Skies of ArcADIA... but I am not too sure..

I don' t think anything in my eyes could beat it.

C' mon.... Cutlass Fury? Pirates Wrath? Prophecy? Ramirez????

The game was just beautiful..

Speaking of which.. because of the lack of JRPG' s on the 360 I have started
playing old ones... No, not Final Fancrappy... but Skies of Arcadia!!! What other game
lets you battle in a giant ship?

Any JRPG' s that AREN' T turn based on the horizon?

I wrote an email to msoft about their abuse of fps on the 360 and they wrote back saying..

Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail. Âs Your input is greatly appreciated, and I will make a note to have your ideas put into the proper channels. Âs At this time I cannot guarantee anything, but I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for bringing this possible game deterrent to our attention.

Thank you for contacting Xbox Customer Care

I also said something about how great it would be to see shenmue 3 lol.

While i detest generic first person shooters, i do love the genre and thing that 360' s pad is definately geared towards that kind of game.

Rainbow Six: Vegas and Brothers in Arms 3 (as well as CoD3) are high on my to buy list, mostly because of their tactical elements but also because team based online play is one of Xbox 360' s biggest strengths.

I might give EnArm a try, I have found that anything that isn' t FF based, I quite
like...

I' ll be picking up FFXII when it comes out because it lacks the one thing I h8 most
about JRPG' s.... TURN BASED!!

The characters still look boring though, and the kid is still typical, and I think it
may be the fourth in a series of FF romance saga' s... Let' s face it... They all
basically ARE chick-flicks.. because everyone in FF is a chick, that' s why.

EnArm and N3 are both out already here...

Too bad I don' t have a 360 (yet) to play ' em and tell you guys how they are. Don' t have the time for it. End of year prolly...

By that time the US/Europe should both have gotten it, right?

PS: On the Singapore ' Brother of the Box' website, one of the guys said he played EnArm. It' s typical fare, but the magic effects are spectular...not much else =/

Yes,i think we all expect a good but nothing more RPG,from Enchanted arm,but its 50 hour long and a JPRG that use some next gen graphic, not in any jaw dropping way,but still...

True. The best game From Software ever made is prolly the two Otogi games (hugs them)

If you never played them, FOR SHAME!

Anyway, I can' t shake the feeling that this COULD have been an Xbox project that was later moved to the 360.

Not like TP, where it' s more like a spruced up port. But the caliber of the character models and some background elements (judging from the trailer) look like they belong on the Box.

Could be so,that it was intended for the xbox.
However enchanted arm wouldn' t work on a ps2 or xbox, and its just a nice way to give jprg until BD hit the markt.

Just looking at 3 videos of enarm, and I have to say, I am quite impressed by the
visual quality, even if the story so far is very reminiscent of a typical japanese
high school story.

Now Majik, I need you to tell me how to do screen caps from videos because I
dunno, there are some sexy screens that I need to put up of EnArm.. do I need
a special program?

Er.... in english?

I have PowerDVD(i think ), so I' ll try it tonight, this game needs to be seen. The
improvements are amazing. The only thing that is throwing me off is the grid
system. But from what I have seen, the nasty long bits can be fast-forwarded.

I like the Queen of Ice design.. It' s cool (no pun intended, honestly)

Nice exterior locations do not make up for the huge number of issues this game has. The animations, dialogue and character modelling are all exceptionally poor. This ISN' T next gen!

I hope that you' re speculating Majik and you haven' t actually played it.

I also hope that you are not saying that after seeing the Xboxyde videos..

No matter, I' ll put some screens up tonight, I too thought this game was a pile
of smouldering skanky sh1t, but that was back when it looked like it was done on
a PS2.

Now though... They branched out, and while it still looks like one of the lesser 360
titles, it is the first JRPG that looks the part. Also, the characters and animations
aren' t bad, just cliched and done to death, and come on, he has a FIERY (spellcheck)
arm... Who wouldn' t want that?

I also hate generic RPG' s, generic being all FF' s up to XI, XII is going to be bought!

The only quam I have with [eM] is the battle grid system..

The rest of the game looks quite pretty actually.

Okay, I' m buddies with a guy down at the game store, so he lets me play his 360 (which is usually on display, and you just have to ask him to let you play it).

Sooo, I tried out Enchant Arm. He started it a bit already, so I used an old game save and decided to test out the battles. Since it' s not ATB, didn' t really have to worry about mussing up with random attacks.

Anyway, I kinda figured it was like a Tactics game. Using the golem made me have flashbacks to Pokemon, but I guess everyone knew that. It' s like having low-level summons from FF, only no impressive summoning sequence.

You guys all know, the special effects are spectular! And after randomingly selecting the most powerful attacks I could use considering the Energy Points or whatever, I DID pull off ONE impressive combo. Not the best prolly, since it' s the early game. But impressive.

Random encounters were SLIGHTLY annoying. The frequency rate wasn' t enough to make me pull my hair out, but like I predicted. Having this slow grid-based battle thing AND random encounters is still annoying.

Graphics overall, were slightly better when I was playing the game instead of just looking at a video. BUT, it' s not very immersive.

It was the game design. Not enough elements/details. Things were just kinda flat, and comparing this to Jade Empire, I still have to say that despite being smoother, the rest of it was behind that current-gen gem. Same thing about the character models.

Overall, it' s a game you CAN play through. Nothing super annoying, but nothing GREAT either. Really just a mediocre starter till we get Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey.

I like RPGs but my hopes aren' t high for this one, hope it ends up good.

And I liked all FF' s I' ve played, except for part V, X-2, and XI ... 4/6/7/8/9/10 were all excellent, XII looks damn good too. I think it wont have progressive scan so it' ll be painful to play though :(
