Just how good is Ninja Gaiden? - May 15, 2004 04:42
Is it worth fifty bucks or not? The demo was fun and all, but i think it seemed too easy. And why did oxm give a more complete version of the first level last disc but made it an easter egg. Kind of dumb i think normally the easter eggs are just a pointless movie.

The game is worth every penny of $50 IMO. And too easy?! Buy the full version. I' ll think you' ll rethink that assesment!

it gets really hard. Swarms of enemies will make you feel like you' re fighting 100 Agent Smiths. But then again, once you get the hang of it, the controls get so intuitive that you' ll forget you' re holding a controller and feel like you' re just " willing" Ryu to do all his dozens and dozens of fancy moves.

I think it' s a really good game. Personally though, I probably won' t buy it. I get VERY frustrated sometimes when playing games. I' ve been known to throw contorllers into walls and shattering them. This is one of those games were I got about 8 hours in and set the controller down and gave it back to my nieghboer. If I had played any more, I would have definately been out another controller.

I think the game is definetly worth owning but I wouldn' t pay full price for it. It' s not a very long game and once you beat it there' s not much reason to go through it again (unless you missed some of the Golden Scarbs that unlock the originals). The funny thing is that the original games are harder than the new one.

Heh...the demo means nothing. Play the game through (if you can), and the get back to me.

I consider the game worth owning simply because of how good it is. I get frustrated as well, and there were NUMEROUS times during NG when I would want to smash sh** all over my room, take the CD out and trade it in as fast as humanly possible so I could get a game I might be able to play without dying every thirty seconds. LOL

However, upon completing NG, it was one of the single most satisfying achievements in my gaming history. My specialty is RPG/strategy-type games, with FPS and action coming in second. When it comes to a game like NG, I don' t think I' m very good, so it was a special chore for me to finish (I only beat it on Normal).

NG is right up there with Ikaruga, Stuntman, and Viewtiful Joe as the most difficult games of this generation.

I thought it was a good game but after beating it I wish I had not shelled out 50 for it, personally. I like the idea of renting but I cannot seem to grasp this concept unfortunately. It would have been a much better rental for me because I don' t think I will ever play through it again. The one time through was a great experience though, one that most action games can' t give you.

Well, I don' t really agree. The game took me 20 hours to complete, and that' s a LOT of gaming in the span of just one rental. And while I may not ever go through it again, I believe in collecting only the best, regardless of whether or not I' ll play it again. NG certainly qualifies as one of the best, and therefore, I want it in my collection.

But that' s kind of a personal thing. I guess if you' re really good at games like this, and you can beat it with just a rental, then maybe that' s a better way to go. But for me, there' s a reason why I still own games I haven' t played in 10 years...they' re just too fantastic NOT to hold to.

Thanks for the insight i will probably just rent it. Although i really have no idea how good i am, i beat the demo level on hard like my fifth try along with getting used to the controls, is that good or not? Oh and just a side note, gaming should be a fun thing and maybe some of you guys should calm down, take a deep breath, and have fun. LOL

m0fr0: I hate to tell you this, but the demo isn' t a fraction as hard as the game. You only play the first level or so, and that' s it. There are 16 chapters in NG...if you can get through the entire game and still say it' s easy, you' re just lying through your teeth.

ok i just never played the game before and wondered if the first level reflected actual difficulty. i also want to know if it has a good storyline or is it just a hack' n slash because it looked like by the end of the demo the storyline could really heat up or just stay the way it started out (with no storyline). Even if it its just a hackn slash it would still be fun but that will determine if i buy it or not.

There is a storyline, but its really flimsy and plays second fiddle to all the action and beautiful graphics. If anything, the boss fights in this game are worth the price of admission itself. This has to be one of the most boss laden games I have ever played!!! Why dont you rent it, see how far you can get before the rental is up, and if you still dig the game, go buy it. This game is destined to be a classic milstone in gaming, and if you are like fathoms and I, that makes it a " must have" for the game collection!

I' m sorry... but if Ninja Gaiden isn' t worth paying " full price" $50 for (a meagre £25 or so for Brits at today' s rate)... then what the hell is?!

Provided you' re up for a real challenge, Ninja Gaiden is one of the best action/adv games this generation has produced, plain and simple...

I didn' t exactly say it wasn' t worth paying full price, I just said I wouldn' t pay full price for it. Maybe I was just expecting way too much for it and I was a bit let down. I' ve only finished it three times and I have no interest finishing it again (and I wont be doing the MNT). I' m at the point where I' m sick of the game... and like I sad, I only finished it three times.

You' ve " only" finished it three times?! Hell, I think it' s one of the best games of this generation, finished it once, and have NO intention of going through it again any time soon. LOL

I don' t understand...

I went throught it twice. Once in normal and again on very hard. Eventually I' m going to go through it again to collect all the scarabs. I would suggest going through it a second time. For me it was still as enjoyable as the first run through. Plus knowing how to defeat all the enemies kept a lot of sweat off my hands.

You may not want to play it again (again again!) immediately but it is one of those games you must keep (as opposed to trade or sell) because it will be one of those titles to look back on as a generation defining showcase. That' s my take anyway.

Damn... we have a whole load of " second opinions" quick-review style articles from Kikizo staff members who have played the game, they were supposed to co-incide with the recent Euro release of the game and the massive Ninja Gaiden campaign running on the site... for any stragglers who' ve not picked the game up yet... lost in the E3 madness... still, it' s not too late, we' ll get them up soon.

ninja gaiden is fun once you get into it but you have to be quite the hardcore gamer if you want to complete it (something i didnt manage) so if youre the type of idiot who goes around buying the latest licensed game (bar chronicles of riddick ive heard good things from various websites) from EA then give it a miss
recently bought games: rallisport challenge 2, hyper street fighter 2, ninja gaiden, hitman contracts

systems owned: PS2, Xbox, PC and GBA

Would it be fair to say that it' s the best Ninja based game this generation?

I love the hell out of this game. Im not really good at it, but it still keeps me playing it. Ima a challenge freak tho so ya. I also think its artistically beautiful. And the vast amount of moves is awsome and creates some nice eye candy once you get the hang of it.

It' s fair to say it is one of the most " well-produced" Ninja games of this generation (how many have there been... 3? 4?). But I still do not enjoy it. It' s not at all challenging... it' s just hard. I like Shinobi on the PS2 more. Shinobi also had way better music. Not sure how Nightshade is, but I am interested if I can find it cheap... in a non-Greatest Hits box (I hate those boxes!)

I enjoyed Kunoichi (Nightshade) a great deal, but strangely enough the game becomes ridiculously annoying going from the easiest mode to the normal mode. They eliminated her convenient one button jump-homing attack move once you play in the higher settings.

Now that I fondly remember Kunoichi, I guess I did enjoy it more than the other Ninja games this generation since it' s the only one I' ve finished, lol.. But Ryu' s arsenal of moves in Ninja Gaiden are pretty tough to match and edges him out over the others.

Kunoichi' s music in general was pleasing. Nothing memorable, no individual tracks stood out like one or two in Shinobi, but all in all I thought Kunoichi' s music went well with the game' s atmosphere.

I liked Kunoichi alot more than Shinobi, despite being a very repetitive game.
I also liked that Kunoichi didn' t really have any *real* puzzles to solve, it just had a bunch of tricky jumping areas in the game which I tend to like alot in platformers anyway!

Ninja Gaiden, despite having annoying puzzles and the worst music out of the bunch, was indeed a very well polished game and Ryu himself just came fully loaded! I' m a sucker for characters with nice movesets and Ryu just owned in that department.

I' m sorry, but NG >>>>>>>>>> Shinobi.

It may have been frustrating as hell, but it' s just far superior, IMO.
