hmm never got to finish my story...owell to make a long story short the TV is very very nice. Tho now after reading all this stuff I dunno how much quality Im getting now, but for $550 I not expecting a machine form heaven or anything. Just needed a somwhat bigger TV that was HD and cheap. Compared to my old non-hd this thing is quite beautiful. All I know is Syntax Olevia were one of the mentioned TVs on Teamxbox.com' s TOP LCD tvs, I just got the smaller one. Tho I guess I couldve opted for a larger CRT of equal price and quality, but I tend to move my room around every couple of months. I dunno. Overall Im quite happy about it. Maybe later Ill bring my 360 in and hook it up to a few TVs and see if I' m missing much. If it' s nothing really apparent then I' ll be quite satified.

Mass X I wouldn' t bother trying your 360 on other tvs, you' ll only end up displeased with your purchase. I' m not saying TV isn' t anything less then great, infact I' m not even familiar with it. My point is that there will always be better technology, and you can drive yourself insane thinking about everything you don' t have. Take a look at me, I bought a HD television last year. I just about bought the cheapest I could find so its nothing special,it doesn' t even do 720p. However I don' t give a shit because I bought if for my 360 and I know games look much better on it then on a standard tv.

Alright I guess you are right. 1920x540 = 1036800 1280x720 = 921600 So 720p displays slightly under 90% as many pixels as 1080i. But I still think 720p looks better and is better for gaming since the picture is more consistent.

720p is better for (rapidly) moving images. It can look " smoother" as opposed to " sharper" .

I agree with that. 1080i is better for still images I think. When I' m at the xbox 360 dashboard 1080i looks better but when I play games the 720p looks a lot better.

I don' t have an Xbox360 yet, but since my TV does 1080i natively and upscales 720p I am not sure which resolution to set my Xbox360 at since most of the games run natively in 720p. Should I let the Xbox360 upscale, or the TV? 720p does look pretty nice watching HDTV off the air, so I' ll probably try having the Xbox360 at 720p at first, but I gotta try 1080i to see if I notice any difference.

Joe my tv doesn' t do 720p either and I have my 360 set to 1080i, looks great I haven' t played around too much with it though. I just assumed it would be best to set it to 1080i since my tv would scale a 720p signal to 1080i anyways, and if a game also displays 1080i it would do that by default. Games run just as well in 720p or 1080i. If your HD tv supports 720p I would select that, otherwise 1080i is probably better.

Yeah, you' ve gotta try both ways. You won' t know which upscaler is better until you try them both out. My *guess* would be that you' d want the 360 to do it, but I could be (and probably am) wrong.
