Best DS Games - Jun 02, 2006 06:46
Well given the advent of the DS lite in the west, I thought I' d ask some people' s opinions on some really good games... Looking for addictive games, fun games, and of course castlevania dawn of sorrow.

A list of your favourite 3 for example would be great... going to take my new one (when i get it) on holiday and need something for the journey. And I' m poor so I can' t afford many games... So help would be great..

Not sure if you tried it, but I hear that New Super Mario Bros. rocks. I don' t have a DS Lite yet, but plan on getting one along with that game.

I' ll also be checking out Trauma Center.

Hands Down for me would be:

1. New Super Mario Bros.

2. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

3. Mario Kart DS

If you had asked me about 4 months ago Mario Kart DS would easily be the top.

Well I like Sonic Rush, if they are not gonna capture the speed on consoles, just
stick it on handhelds, and it does a good job.

I don' t like the superstars one somehow they never really excite me....plus I find it weird having a crossover of heroes all in one game.

Superstars is fun when you get the souped up versions of all the characters...

people ridiculously with a crazy kamehameha..

WarioWare: Twisted is for the GBA. WarioWare: Touched is the one for the DS I think.

Oh, yeah! Well, I played the Twisted version on the DS, while, come to think of it, it would' ve been easier to move the thing around if I were playing on an SP or Micro.

I' ve never played Touched.

New Super Mario Bros. while GREAT is still a little disappointing. While I LOVE that the game looks and feels like the classic 2D Mario platformers, a part of me also feels that Nintendo took the safe route and made the game TOO much like the 2D classics and didn' t bother utilizing any DS-specific features in any meaningful way.

You' re KILLIN' ME, Terry! A return to old-school, and you' re not down! WTF!

Well, since you' re killin' me anyway; what kind of enhancements did you have in mind?

Oh no, don' t misunderstand, I AM down!! I LOVE the game, but also feel that it could have easily been done on any other gaming platform. Nintendo has this unique handheld gaming device but didn' t utilize any of its much touted features with one of their biggest games...

Sonic Rush utilized the dual screen setup during gameplay to display the action on both screens. Viewtiful Joe: Double Trouble not only used both screens but also utilized a control scheme that couldn' t be emulated on any of the other console and handheld gaming platforms on the market.

It would have been great to have this new Mario utilize the Dual screens during gameplay OR utilize the touch screen features in a way that was worthwhile. Hell, even utilize the Mic, something. Anything.

It' s kinda like developing a Mario game for the Wii and not taking advantage of the motion sensor functions of the controller.

I think the best games for education are Trauma Centre: Under the Knife, Big Brain Academy and Brain Training.

I have to admit. I just bought my DS, and I' m broke so I can' t buy any games besides Big Brain Academy (which btw, is surprisingly fun).

Anyway, based on reviews and my own personal interest, I suggest these games:

1.) Anyone of the Nintendogs games. Besides I think it' s considered blasphemous if you don' t get one @_@ Fans come and cram the carts in your mouth while you sleep if you don' t buy one...

2.) Trauma Center/Phoenix Wright - Either one or both. They' re both fun to play, but I think they have low replayability (esp. Phoenix Wright)

3.) Personally, I want to get Lost in Blue. It' s prolly the closest thing to a Sim on the DS.

Oh, and Mario Kart and New Super Mario Bros. Because they' re good. And they' re Marior XD

Actually, this is to die-for: http://ds.ign.com/objects/707/707320.aspx

The visuals look great! For the DS, but with Stylus control?! Fantastic :D

Another code - amazing adventure game
Mario KArt - the best DS game? probably
Castlevania
Meteos
Yoshi' s touch and go
viewtiful joe
Sonic rush
many,many more

Byakko , since you' re asian , did you happen to see a G6 DS Lite accesory somewhere?

It' s been released in asia and it allows you to have all your DS and GBA games on one cartridge, you can also store movies , audio and emulators. It also has a cool real-time save feature - you can save anytime you want in any game.

The most important thing is that it fits perfectly with DS Lite - looks like this :

Hm, I' m not really sure whether 3rd party software like this is legal in Singapore. It prolly is, but just that we don' t have the culture for it here =/

So far, I' ve only found one online retailer (based in Singapore) for the G6 Lite but it' s the Chinese version.

It' s at $120 Sing dollars =/ I' m strapped for cash right now, so I' d prolly only TRY to get it at the end of the year.

Plus, I' m a bit scared of whether it' ll hurt my DS ^^;;;

Edit: Here' s something to think about. FF3 looks pretty much like FF7. In fact, the character models look BETTER, but definitely the backgrounds ain' t as good...

If somehow, someone could get that old PS Emulator (I can' t remember the name, I know there was one that was particular good) to run on a DS...

The problem would be the FF7 CD image. I read that the G6 is only at 4Gigabits, so it' s about 512 MB. And since it' s memory can' t expand, the other cards that use SD and MicroSD might be better...

Just a thought really. It' ll be just like a big f**k you to Sony when they see some kid playing the old FF7 (and other games) on the DS XD

g6 has more advantages - games don' t skip and they load fast - SD based devices have laggy menus and CG movies are choppy in some games.Another thing is battery life - it' s the only device that drains as much as normal games.Saving is also cool, cause it' s normal - in stuff like EZ Flash your games are saved the next time you turn on your DS.

There' s now way they could emulate PSX on the DS - it' s the same generation of hardware in performance power ( " a bit more than N64" Vs PSX - is too close for emulation)

FF3 does look great though :)

my 3 fave Ds games:
1. Mario kart DS
2. Brain age: train your brain in minutes a day
3. Metroid Prime hunters

honorable mention:
new super mario bros.

I know brain age and mario kart are great because i known them and addicted to breaking my bros records in brain age and breaking my own in mario kart.

i know the other 2 are good by demos.
